Embrace change and move ahead

This year’s ITM conference focuses on thriving in an evolving industry

H

OW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CHANGE? Most people would answer that by saying it depends on whether the change is good or bad for them. Increasingly, I’m a believer in making the best of all kinds of change.

I’m sorry if I sound a bit cheesy or annoyingly upbeat. I’m just not a fan of wasting our breath discussing the problems associated with change. As someone who’s been through colourful changes in both work and home life, I understand that venting their frustration about change can be cathartic for some, but I find that focusing on moving onwards and upwards is far more satisfying. The key is to adapt to change, and even embrace it, in order to take advantage of it. Much easier said than done, right? And before anyone says it, having a mindset that is receptive to change has nothing to do with age. Many of the most disruptive thinkers in travel are ‘experienced’ players. At ITM, we talk about having a millennial mindset, rather than labelling people by their date of birth. ITM’s ‘Changing The Game’ conference on 2-3 May in Aviemore will be exploring every part of the travel ecosystem experiencing change and we’ll look to develop the themes and skills that will help you jump- start your success. The focus will be on what’s happening now and how to exploit it today. Alongside our great speakers and guests, World Cup-winning England rugby player Matt Dawson will be joining us. Matt will share how he approaches change and how he has adapted to succeed in multiple challenges, including his journey back to health after a recent battle with Lyme’s disease.

Another thing about managing change is that it’s best approached as

a group. The amazing business travel community is going to embrace the positives together at our conference. We’ve even dared to change the entertainment and we can’t wait to see what you think. It wouldn’t be the same without you and I hope you can join us in Scotland in May. Visit itmconference.org.uk to book your place.
