We’ve

Business is similar to last year. There’s been a bit of a slump. That said, in general, over the past fi ve years we’ve probably done fewer projects than the years before, but they’ve been bigger. People want extensions and big kitchens rather than like-for-like replacements. I think it’s because it’s not a bad time to borrow money, so homeowners are choosing to take out loans on their mortgages and get work done, because everyone wants the big living kitchen nowadays. We don’t stray too far from Winchester, we will travel about an hour out in any direction. It’s a typical cathedral city with old buildings and, as a consequence, people always wanted traditional-style kitchens. But now people are having extensions done, they’re after a more contemporary look. In terms of colours, greys and earthy tones are still big, with light-coloured worktops, though we’ve had a good run of midnight blue kitchens.

In terms of brands, we deal with Rotpunkt, Mereway and a local bespoke cabinet manufacturer. For appliances, it’s Neff and Siemens, for sinks and taps it’s Franke and Quooker.

Most of our business comes from recommendations and one of our USPs is that we’re a one-stop-shop. You don’t need to shop around for a builder or plasterer – we supply everything. We’re a local independent and have been around for 10 to 15 years. People

know who we are and recognise us as a trusted local company. We also do bedrooms and media centres, so that all helps. We don’t really do much in terms of advertising and marketing, but we do incentivise our customers with ‘recommend a friend’ schemes, where we offer vouchers to existing customers who put forward someone who goes on to have work done by us.

People love to show off their kitchens and if they think they’re likely to get something out if it, they’re even more likely to tell their friends about us.
