SEASON 3 EPISODE 9

Kitchens International

Excellent episode this week as we have an interview with a retailer who is not only one of the biggest independents in the UK but also one

of the most consistently impressive and that’s Kitchens International in Scotland.

They’ve just been acquired by James Donaldson & Sons so we find out all about that from brand director Paul O’Brien (pictured). We’ll also hear about their plans to seriously do bathrooms AND to extend their showroom network out of Scotland and into the rest of the UK. We also find out about their lockdown experience and how Paul sees the market going forward so it’s all really insightful stuff from one of the best retailers out there – don’t miss it!

SEASON 3 EPISODE 11

By-appointment-only and mandatory water labels

The government has announced it is introducing a mandatory water efficiency label on products and that

could not only make the retailer liable for displaying it but may also lead to the effective banning of water guzzling products. We’re getting the info from BMA CEO Tom Reynolds (pictured) and Unified Water Label MD Yvonne Orgill. Then we’re looking into the continuation of the by-appointment-only scheme past the end of lockdown. Has this system, forced on many retailers by social distancing rules, turned out to be a game changer for how they operate in the future. We’re talking to Ritchie Hanley from Ability Kitchens in Chester and Jo Geddes from Kitchens by JS Geddes in Kilmarnock.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 10

Why are retailers finding recruitment so difficult?

We start with a chat with an appliance brand that is really mounting a serious challenge against the main players in

the built-in market and that’s Samsung. We talk to channel manager Jonathan Hartley

Then we go straight to the shop floor and talk about recruitment. With so many retailers dealing with very high demand they’re desperate to recruit new skilled, experienced people who can hit the ground running - but those people are proving hard to find. We’re talking recruitment with a couple of excellent retailers currently searching for staff – Elizabeth Pantling Jones from Lima Kitchens in Milton Keynes (pictured) and friend-of-the-pod Luke Wedgbury from Coalville Kitchens.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 12

A trip to my local retailer...

Your esteemed podcast host Andy Davies gets on the bus and takes a trip to see his local independent kitchen and bathroom retailer - Jon Wallis at

WC One in Bromley (pictured) - to see how it has coped with the last 18 months, what issues it’s facing now, and what plans it has for the future.

Then we meet John Pickering, the managing director for MIele in the UK, Ireland and South Africa. He’s running one of the biggest names in built-in appliances when it comes to independent kitchen studios, so how is the brand dealing with supply issues, online sales and other ongoing lockdown issues?

Miele has also just opened its latest Experience Centre in Edinburgh and we find out all about that too.
