Bridging the gaps that matter most

Welcome to this comprehensive guide to Healthcare Estates 2026, the flagship event for the Institute, its members, and the wider healthcare sector. Each year, this event brings together a remarkable community of healthcare engineering, estates and facilities professionals, and I am delighted to be welcoming so many of you in joining us. This year’s conference theme,

‘Mind the Gap: Are We Heading for a Two-Tier Estate?’, addresses a critical and increasingly visible challenge across the NHS estate. As we face unprecedented challenges – from ageing estates and rising demand to ambitious Net Zero commitments and the need for new hospitals – our profession is at the centre of a vital national dialogue and the need for fast acting change. The coming years will continue to see significant investment in new, digitally enabled healthcare facilities. However, alongside this progress, many Trusts are operating within challenging legacy infrastructure, where the immediate priority remains maintaining safe and operational services. This divergence in estate capability, digital maturity, and investment is creating a gap across the sector which we must ensure does not continue to widen.

Healthcare Estates 2026 provides the ideal platform for open, honest discussion, drawing on the collective knowledge and experience of professionals across government, policy, the NHS, industry, academia, and

our membership community. Our programme once again offers an outstanding opportunity for knowledge sharing, professional development, and CPD, while the exhibition brings together an extensive range of products, services, and solutions from across the industry. The challenge being addressed at this year’s conference is one that demands collaboration, practical thinking, and, above all else, a willingness to share what works – and what does not. I encourage you to make the most of every opportunity to learn, challenge, connect, and share ideas with colleagues and experts from across the profession. With so much

experience and expertise gathered under one roof, I am confident that the conversations started here will help us bridge the gaps that matter most. My sincere thanks go to all our exhibitors, delegates, and speakers for making Healthcare Estates such an important and unmissable event. I look forward to meeting many of you, and to another inspiring, informative, and impactful gathering.
