Further to this year’s Healthcare Estates ‘Mind the Gap’ thematic programme, which explores the emergence of a two-tier NHS estate, IHEEM is primed to echo this conversation within its Membership Lounge, providing a hub for present and future workforce generations to network and address the widening gap in human resources across the sector.

Institute is proud to be centring younger generations of innovators and engineers, spanning inspiring students, ambitious and driven graduates, to tomorrow’s leaders embarking on early and mid-career stages within the healthcare environment. Noor-Fatimah Khuram, this year’s IHEEM Special Award winner at The Big Bang Competition will be speaking at this year’s conference, as well as having a presence in the Members’ Lounge, giving delegates the opportunity to hear more about her incredible winning design ‘The Smart- Grommet’. Judges of this year’s IHEEM Special Award for Innovation in Wellbeing and Healthcare Engineering were hugely impressed with the year 12’s dual-action approach to preventing middle-ear infection, and are delighted to welcome Noor-Fatimah to this year’s Healthcare Estates.


Estates & Facilities


NHS Estates & Facilities Graduate Engineers will be delivering an insightful session sharing reflections from their first year working across a range of NHS trusts. Through personal experiences and project insights, the graduates will highlight the technical, operational, and developmental challenges they have encountered, along with the contributions they have made to improving Estates & Facilities services. Their workshop will explore lessons learned, the diverse engineering pathways within the NHS, and how early career engineers can influence improvement and innovation across the system. Attendees will gain valuable perspectives on the impact of the Graduate Scheme, lessons learned, and the future potential of this emerging professional community, and the Institute is greatly looking forward to the return of the

NHS Graduates to the conference and the IHEEM Members’ Lounge.


Finally, new 2026 IHEEM partners, NextGen Healthcare Network, will have a significant presence throughout the conference programme and will be based in the IHEEM Lounge. The NextGen Healthcare Network is a multi- disciplinary community for healthcare professionals involved in the planning, design, construction, development, and management of healthcare facilities and


services. Aimed at professionals with around 5–15 years of experience, the network provides a platform for knowledge sharing, professional development, and building meaningful, long-lasting industry connections. To meet its members and find out more, the Network will have a presence within the IHEEM Membership Lounge for the duration of the conference. You can hear more from these individuals and groups at the conference during the following presentation slots:
