TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Healthcare Estates

DISCOVER THE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AT HEALTHCARE ESTATES 2026

IHEEM once again looks forward to welcoming thousands of delegates to the UK’s leading event for healthcare engineering and estates professionals – members and non-members from across the globe have an ideal opportunity not just to learn about sector trends and challenges, but more about the Institute itself.

Behind IHEEM’s extensive operations and offer to professionals across the sector at every stage of their career, there is a community of dedicated member volunteers who each play a critical role in delivering the objectives of the Institute, including driving exceptional professional standards, career development, and membership value. For each key component of the IHEEM membership benefits, there are two strands of involvement and professional development to be gained; either as a primary beneficiary, such as achieving professional registration, being mentored, and so on, or as part of the team who support these processes. Spanning mentors, reviewers and interviewers, and auditors, to branch, platform, STEM, and events activity, crucial contribution is made by members, who, in exchange, also gain access to valuable CPD, networking opportunities, and broaden their own learning and knowledge of the sector.

Mentors and Mentees

The IHEEM Mentor Scheme connects members with experienced professionals who can provide confidential, practical guidance. Mentors and mentees are paired according to the individual’s needs and the mentor’s specialist experience, with expectations and boundaries agreed at the outset.

• Mentees can request a mentor to support areas including career

development, professional registration, Authorising Engineer registration, or wider career pathways. The process provides access to relevant experience, encouragement, and a sounding board for professional decisions.

• Mentors receive dedicated training, providing assurance that the

relationship is based on active listening, open-mindedness, confidentiality, and

respect. It is an opportunity to share knowledge, supporting peers and future generations alike, and gain valuable skills and CPD.

Professional Registration

The Institute is licensed by the Engineering Council to peer assess and accredit individuals seeking professional registration as Engineering Technicians (EngTech), Incorporated Engineers (IEng), and Chartered Engineers (CEng). The process begins with identifying the appropriate registration route and building evidence of competence and commitment through qualifications, professional experience, and CPD.

• Applicants prepare their submission for professional review, with IHEEM

providing guidance and support throughout the process. For successful
