These two amino acids may have contributed to


the increase collagen synthesis observed in human primary fibroblasts. The presence of polyphenols in the extract certainly contributed to a decrease in collagen and microfibrils degradation by reducing oxidative stress.12


It has been shown that


polyphenols in Nannochloropsis species have the ability to protect dermal fibroblast from oxidative damage.13


Finally, the presence of carbohydrates


in the extract can target downstream inflammation reducing oxidative damage.4 In conclusion, we have developed a novel


microalga extract for cosmetic application, in particular to target skin ageing, such as loss of skin elasticity and firmness. The extract was developed through a sustainable approach. When used at clinical dosage in finished products to target skin ageing, the extract can improve skin tonicity and bring a lifting effect.
