I know lemons are winter fruits, but they make me think of spring! Any new “twist” on lemons I should be thinking about?
I see what you did there, and I’ll take you up a pun, these are the ZEST ones I know: The freezer is a great way to extend the life of citrus! Fresh lemon (or any citrus) zest and juice can be frozen to add a pop of freshness to baked goods, poultry dishes and even cocktails. Hate seeds? Two options: core citrus like you do apples or grab the new Wonderful seedless version on the shelves. There’s a lot to love about lemons, and you can learn even more tips in our Love Lemons cook-along. Register online at

My dad lives alone and eats a
lot of prepared foods. Any tips for shopping healthier?
Look for the stars — Guiding Stars! Our Guiding Stars nutrition guidance program is a great way to easily identify better-for-you options. Have him look for the green apple with stars on the price tag. One star is good, two stars is better and three stars is best! This rating system takes into consideration nutrients we want less of in our diets (saturated fat, sodium and added sugars) and nutrients we want more of (fiber, vitamins, minerals, healthy fats). There’s plenty of Guiding Stars options in the frozen, prepared foods section, so he should start there. He can also reach out to our team to walk him through the store to find the best versions of the foods he already enjoys!

I love being the first in my friend group to share a new food or trend. How can I stay ahead of the game?
As a self-professed foodie myself, there is no better way to learn about the trends than social media (unless you have some inside information). The great thing about working in a grocery store means I often know about trends and products up to a year in advance, and now you can too! Where you ask? Social media, of course! Join me on TikTok @HealthyLivingbyGiant. If podcasts are your thing, Mandy and Emily do a quarterly “Try Something New” episode. You can check that out on your favorite podcast app, just search Healthy Living by Giant.
