Keeping Current with Component Hardware and Assemblies

By Joe Rosenblum, Director of Marketing, Keystone Electronics W

hen designing a product for manu- facturability and durability, picking the right hardware components is a

crucial matter that’s all too often left until after all the other circuit parameters are in place. Ideally, hardware selection should be integrated into all component selection and specified at the time of a product design. Take, for instance, the battery holder on a

self-powered electronic product. The design staff may know their power requirements and think that once their battery is chosen there is a one-size-fits-all holder that snugly fits into their unique board and/or device case. If there was one battery to choose from, then the choice would be easy. The rapid growth of battery

chemistries, however, makes the choice for holder types to accom- modate them more challenging including retainers, contacts, clips, snap-ons and snap-ins for coin cell and button-cell types as well as strap assemblies for dual and multiple holders.

Standard and Custom Keystone Electronics has a

wide variety of styles and config- urations specifically to make the design process that much easier. It’s when that standard item just will not work that Keystone’s decades of industry leadership and skilled tool and die makers and experienced production staff that can modify or custom design components, hardware and even assemblies that will meet any designer’s special needs. Keystone’s hardware compo-

nents and assemblies are not lim- ited to the battery and fuse con- nectivity products. Components such as PCB circuit test points, male and female quick-fit termi- nals and PCB screw terminals all play a pivotal role in connecting a PCB to the device it’s used in. Electronic hardware is not

limited to the products on the PCB. They also include the mechanical fastening devices to keep a product or assembly togeth- er or secured in place. Products such as standoffs and spacers, jack screws, captive hardware, LED spacers and more all offer key fin- ishes to a product or assembly. Keystone Electronics has a

comprehensive line of standard hardware for PCB assemblies, board stacking, and PC104 re - quire ments to make this easier. If designs have specific require- ments, Keystone can modify or custom design hardware that will meet any designers’ special needs. For custom-built, modified,

or standard components, Key - stone’s skilled tool and die mak- ers and experienced production staff use state-of-the-art, high- speed power equipment to manu- facture a wide variety of compet-
