The Celebration of Faith SECTION E When Christians call God a mystery, they mean that:
ò Our language is of limited use when talking about God. Our words can only give us a vague idea of God’s greatness.
ò It is beyond the capacity of our minds to ever fully understand who God is.
ò The best we can hope for is to gain some insight into the greatness of God. This can only be achieved through prayer, studying sacred texts and living a good life.
The Meaning of Worship Christians respond to the mystery of God through acts of worship.
REMEMBER! Worship is any action that shows:
ò You have faith in God. ò You recognise that there is no one greater than God. ò You want to give thanks and praise to God.
You can worship God in two ways: ò In private, i.e. on your own. ò In public, i.e. with others.
A Personal god Like Jews and Muslims, Christians too worship a personal God.
REMEMBER! A personal God is one who loves you and cares about what happens to you.
All three religions agree that only God is worthy of worship. As a result, Jews, Christians and Muslims reject idolatry.
REMEMBER! Idolatry is the worship of anyone or anything other than God.
