Communities of Faith SECTION A The Challenges and Rewards of Voluntary Work
You may sometimes hear people say that it is a waste of time doing voluntary work. Why should you take on an unpaid job with a charitable organisation?
Certainly, you might find the work challenging. You might be helping to feed the homeless or care for people with a disability. It might take you out of your comfort zone. However, would that really be such a bad thing? Think about the benefits of doing voluntary work.
You could:
¢ Learn to get along better with other people. ¢ Come to see life from someone else’s point of view. ¢ Learn more about life from the people you meet. ¢ Gain a better understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses. ¢ Develop lasting friendships with other, like-minded volunteers. ¢ Have the satisfaction of knowing that what you are doing is helping to improve the lives of others.
