Terri Cope-Walton

Journalist Class of 1996

Terri Cope-Walton, a 1996 Central State graduate, has been making a splash since her CSU days. She began her broadcast career in Dayton, Ohio, as a radio talk- show host for WDAO-AM, and later as a news producer/reporter for WHIO-AM. Her transition into television reflects a healthy resume showcasing a variety of accomplishments and award- winning journalism. She joined the ranks of Indianapolis’ WRTV as a weekend-morning associate producer in 1998. Upon taking the helm of WRTV in 2013, Cope-Walton became the first black female news director in Indianapolis.

Cope-Walton’s

passion for storytelling has inspired a career of more than 20 years.

JUDGE MICHAEL NELSON

Municipal Court Judge Class of 1972

As an involved CSU alumnus, Michael Nelson’s sense of community extends well beyond the walls of academia. Less than a year ago, after six inmates died in four months at the Cuyahoga County Jail (CCJ), he refused to send non-violent offenders awaiting trial to sit at CCJ simply because they couldn’t afford the bond. In October 2018, Nelson told Cleveland.com that

he

now gives “personal bonds to everyone from now on, unless they are the worst of worst, until things get figured out at the jail.” With the heart of a Marauder, Nelson continues to build his legacy through fair-mindedness and compassion.
