FEATURE The New Attraction? Could magnets be the future of flooring? Here, the experts from magnetic
flooring specialist IOBAC tell us more about its adhesive-free, resin solution now available for the residential flooring sector.
Although we engage with it every day, flooring can be an overlooked area of building design, seen by some property developers and homeowners as merely a necessity. Once chosen, many see it as something that they will have to live with for many years, with repairs and replacements costly and disruptive.
Re-Thinking Flooring
It was the desire to change this perception, and to make the flooring process as simple, fast, cost-effective and hassle- free as possible for all involved, that led to the creation of a modern, sophisticated magnetic flooring system. Radically re-thinking traditional flooring, IOBAC has created a range of magnetic flooring solutions for different built environments that dramatically reduce installation time, while offering enhanced design freedom and cost-saving benefits. IOBAC has also recently expanded its range further by offering intelligent and heated magnetic flooring options.
How It Works
As simple as a fridge magnet, the solution consists of a metallised resin or dry-laid base, to which a magnetised top surface carpet or luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is attached. Alternatively,

if standard non-magnetised surface tiles are preferred, these can be attached to the base using a clever MagTab solution.
For the homeowner, the ease and speed of installation is a major advantage. Choose from either a resin base which cures within 1.5 hours, or a simple dry-laid roll down layer, then simply attach top surface tiles. Installation time can be reduced by up to three times, meaning less downtime, disruption and upheaval, as well as reduced labour costs. Removing the need for adhesives, used top surface tiles can then be reused or recycled as they remain uncontaminated.
Flexible
Once magnetic flooring is in place, it’s also incredibly easy to repair or replace. Damaged tiles can be swapped out in seconds or, if the homeowner changes their mind on their flooring, an entirely new-look flooring design can be installed within a matter of hours rather than days. The metallised base stays in place and you simply lift up the surface tiles and replace with new ones.
The ease and speed of replacing the surface tiles means you can quickly remodel, change and enhance a home, customising individual rooms and transforming the aesthetics and feel of a space.
