FOCUS ON WOOD Renew, Recondition, Revitalise When purchasing wood flooring, it is essential that your customers are informed
of the correct way to care for it. Here, Steve Grimwood, Managing Director of Osmo UK, looks at the importance of regular cleaning and maintenance for wood flooring.
A good cleaning and maintenance regime is essential for wooden floors, helping to keep them looking as good as the day they were installed. With the use of a range of products, it is possible to keep floors in tip top condition.
As a natural material, wood needs maintenance to ensure it continues to retain its positive properties. The best maintenance products penetrate deeply into the wood, bringing elasticity to the surface and allowing it to breathe. There are a variety of products and methods to enhance and protect the wood in this way.
Hardwax oils help to keep wooden floors looking as good as the day they were first installed. Made from natural waxes and oils, these products are specifically tailored to the various properties of timber and to the specific demands of the areas in which wood is used.
Regular Damp Mopping
This is a highly-effective process for ensuring the floor stays in a good condition and is a quick and easy method which is great for spills which need to be attended to immediately. All that is needed for this approach is a cleaning and maintenance concentrate which is water-soluble, such as Osmo Wash and Care. Apply this with a dust mop for a thorough clean. Quick and easy to apply, this is perfect for large, high-traffic areas as there is no worry of creating hazards. This will not only clean, but also freshen the floor at the same time. It is particularly effective in the removal

of minor spillages such as fruit juices, milk, cola, beer, wine, coffee and other day-to-day marks and stains.
Occasional Intensive Maintenance and Reconditioning
Osmo liquid wax cleaner or spray has been specially designed for occasional intensive cleaning which will revitalise, maintain and enhance wooden floors. These products are specifically developed to take care of stubborn stains on oil and wax treated flooring. An easy to use solution, it only requires a small amount to be applied to the floor using a lint-free cloth. This is especially effective for the removal of fat, shoe polish and marks, ink and other hard to remove stains. For minor scuffs, Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner spray would be recommended.
Protective Surface Renewal
To retain the original surface properties over the years, worn areas of the floor need to be renewed. After thorough cleaning with a single-disc machine, apply a very thin coat of a hardwearing and extremely durable oil-based finish. This will maintain the surface and ensures a flawless finish both upon application and for many years to come.
Osmo’s environmentally-friendly cleaning and maintenance range is specifically tailored to the various properties of timber and to the particular demands of the area in which the wood is installed.
