HEALTHCARE HYGIENE

The right dose We find out how SEKO’s IoT systems are transforming laundry dosing.

Laundry operators around the world are faced with the combined challenge of a competitive marketplace, difficult economic conditions and the need for sustainability. This has created increasing demand for high-precision chemical dosing systems that minimise chemical, water and energy consumption without affecting wash performance.

At the forefront of design and manufacturing for these detergent injection solutions is chemical systems specialist SEKO, with a dosing pump range including peristaltic, solenoid and pneumatic units for every kind of installation from laundrettes to high-demand industrial laundries.

SEKO’s products have long been known for their superior dosing precision and chemical compatibility, enabling operators to enjoy accurate, consistent performance over the long term with minimal maintenance requirement. In addition, the company has for many years operated under the Kaizen principle of continuous improvement, with SEKO’s R&D team constantly pushing the envelope on product innovation to bring customers cutting-edge solutions to their daily challenges.

This approach sees SEKO today transforming the way laundry operators monitor and manage their installations by introducing the power of the internet of things (IoT) to an ever-increasing range of systems. These include the Tomorrow’s Cleaning Awards-nominated Wash Series and LS100 devices, which both offer revolutionary connectivity features.

The Wash Series is a range of wall-mounted and free- standing dosing systems covering every application from on-premise laundry to industrial tunnel washers. These systems use peristaltic, solenoid or pneumatic-driven dosing to provide accuracy and consistency in even the most demanding laundry processes.

The LS100, meanwhile, is built with venturi cartridges that use water pressure to draw chemical, with an absence of moving parts meaning a significantly reduced maintenance requirement compared to systems that rely on mechanical dosing.

During operation, these pump systems collect data on wash cycle status, chemical consumption and equipment performance, with this information accessible locally and remotely via the SekoWeb and SekoBlue apps, courtesy of each device’s built-in web server. With vital statistics such as cost per kilo of laundry at their fingertips, managers have a detailed understanding of the true cost of their operation, allowing them to pinpoint wastage and adjust wash formulas in order to optimise performance and minimise chemical consumption.

Reducing chemical and energy usage this way means managers benefit from immediate efficiency improvements while being able to budget more accurately and streamline stored chemical volume – especially useful on smaller sites where space is at a premium.

Meanwhile, SekoWeb and SekoBlue provide access to up-to-date downloadable manuals, intelligent auto-tuning sensors and online step-by-step technical support which can accelerate installation, setup and commissioning, and reduce associated time and costs.

Plus, wasted journeys by maintenance technicians to perform routine servicing – who may have to travel a considerable distance to assess a system’s condition only to find it in perfect working order – can be eliminated, as they need only be deployed when required. Also, engineers who cover multiple sites or have a hybrid work arrangement are able to check their SEKO laundry systems remotely at a time that suits them for a significant productivity improvement, as well as contributing to sustainability targets.

With web-enabled pump systems increasingly specified for on-premise laundry machines within hospitals, care homes and hotels, SEKO’s LS100 and Wash Series products give operators today the ability to take control of costs over both the short and long term.
