Ecocert certification for Biovate
Biovate Hygienics is celebrating after being awarded Ecocert certification for its natural cleaning products.
The accolade is a major achievement for the company as it claims the certification, which is recognised as one of the best-known worldwide labels for organic products.
Biovate Hygienics had earmarked this year for the next step on its journey towards closer alignment with both certification and trade bodies, to ensure its products and business is independently validated by credible third parties.
Co-founders Nick Winstone and Tom Burkill set up the company with a vision of sustainable innovation and positive disruption – and to change the way Britian cleans.
Ecocert has given its seal of approval to a wide range of Biovate’s products under its Ecodetergent certification, including surface cleaners, a fabric cleaner and a floor degreaser.
Mr Winstone said: “This is a major achievement of our journey to develop the most sustainable cleaning products on the planet. Our vision and mission is to drive sustainable change to reflect our identity as a business and the many
steps we’ve undertaken to gain Ecocert accreditation are a demonstration of our commitment to that goal”.
Mr Burkill added: “In a world where ‘greenwashing’ is becoming a common phrase, we aim to bring credence to our activity and what better way than with the hardest and most stringent of certifications, that took us over 18 months to achieve.”
Ecocert advances sustainability through its Ecodetergent certification programme, ensuring that products are both naturally derived and eco-friendly. Their emphasis lies in environmentally responsible practices and natural ingredients in their approved detergents, while prioritising product performance and safety.
Ecocert has around 30 years of experience for audit and certification of organic products in more than 130 countries and is recognised as the world’s leading specialist in the certification of Natural & Organic sustainable practices.
Biovate Hygienics focuses on providing a serviced range of sustainable cleaning products to the housekeeping, hospitality and general cleaning sectors.

Duct Hygiene Ventilation maintenance and fire safety specialist Duct Hygiene has been acquired by First Compliance Group.
The Wrexham-headquartered business becomes part of First Compliance Group, a compliance, training and regulatory safety specialist within the ventilation and specialist cleaning sectors.
Founded in 2004, Duct Hygiene has customers across the education, retail, healthcare, leisure and sports sectors, providing kitchen, ventilation and extraction cleaning services which help customers comply with food safety regulations and their Building Safety Act obligations. The company also provides fire damper inspection, testing and compartmentation services.
The value of the seven-figure deal has not been disclosed, whilst the new owners have confirmed that Duct Hygiene’s team of 50 will remain in place. An investment programme will also commence in the coming months.
Ben Wood, CEO at First Compliance Group, said: “Duct Hygiene is an established brand within the compliance sector and their track record is widely respected. The business perfectly complements our existing portfolio of compliance and training services.
“Vitally, the deal also enhances our vision to provide a national offering to our new and existing clients and we’re looking forward to moving the business forward in the months ahead. It’s a hugely exciting deal for us.”
Phill Brooks, Managing Director of Duct Hygiene, added: “Becoming part of First Compliance Group is a perfect fit for us as we mark our 20th year in business. We share the exact same vision for creating genuine value and putting customers and their interests first when it comes to their cleaning, inspection and regulatory commitments.
“It’s an exciting deal and I’ve got no doubt that we will grow and prosper.”
Mr Wood added that First Compliance Group, which also owns specialist business Insuraclean, plans to establish a new training academy before the end of 2024 as it attempts to play its role in addressing the growing skills gap across the sector.
