Who has made the shortlist?
With just months to go until the European Cleaning & Hygiene Awards in Brussels, Michelle Marshall, Founder of the event and editor of ECJ, reveals who made the 2022 shortlist.
It seems like such a long time since 2019, when we brought the industry together in London to celebrate some fantastic achievements. The pandemic meant that we sadly had to cancel our events for two years running, but this year we’re back and raring to shine the spotlight on the cleaning and hygiene sector.
We were delighted to receive a record number of entries across all categories this year and our judges had the incredibly challenging job of whittling them down. After hours locked in discussions in January, we’re delighted to confirm our 2022 finalists, with 39 leading service providers and manufacturers making the shortlist.
Here we share who made the cut, as they eagerly await the big awards event at Hotel Le Plaza in April.
Our Best Use of Smart Solutions by Service Providers category is an opportunity for entrants to show how they’ve embraced the latest IT-based tech and implemented systems that deliver major efficiencies, productivity, accountability and transparency. This year, five finalists in this category are Climex, Leviy in partnership with Alpheios Belgium, Principle Cleaning Services and Drop Marking, Principle Cleaning Services and Landsec at Dashwood House, and Sasse Facilities Management.
Investment in Training celebrates the companies which embed training into the culture of their organisation, enabling colleagues to develop personally and professionally. This year’s finalists include Breedweer Facilitaire Diensten, Derrycourt Cleaning Specialists, Markas, and Momentum Support.
Our Excellence in Client-Contractor Relationships award goes to those that formed a close working relationship with a key client to achieve partnership status. The shortlist includes Atalian Servest with LNER, Incentive FM with Beaumont Leys Shopping Centre, JPC by Samsic with Broadgate, Momentum Support with Brown Thomas Dublin, and Sodexo with Queen’s Hospital.
The Start-up of the Year award is a new category and was incredibly popular, providing the opportunity to shine the spotlight on an up-and-coming business. The three finalists include ICE Cleaning, Sensosan, and TRU.
Sustainability – Best Practice is an incredibly important award, recognising those who have made a lifelong commitment to operate in the most sustainable way, from manufacturing to service and distribution. Making this shortlist are Care, Cleanology, Essity, Momentum Support, and Rubbermaid.

Commitment to Diversity is another vital category, shining a spotlight on the businesses who work hard to attract diverse new recruits to the sector, equipping them with the skills they need and encouraging continuous development, empowerment and career progression. Our three finalists are Breedweer, CSU, and Markas Austria.
Our Best Initiative Raising the Profile of the Cleaning Sector finalists go above and beyond to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of using professional cleaning services and products. They include ANIP Confindustria, Leviy in partnership with Alpheios Belgium, Nviro, and Unger Germany.
Technological Innovation of the Year is always an impressive category, as we get to hear about the latest innovations that will shape our industry. Both our finalists – Gaussian Robotics and LionsBot – wowed our judges with their entries.
The final two categories are very special as they recognise the people behind the business. From inspirational leaders who supported their colleagues over a challenging two years, to those making a real mark on the industry in the prime of their career, the nominations are always uplifting to read.
This year, Siva Kugathas of Servicemaster AAA, Dominic Ponniah of Cleanology, Neil Spencer-Cook of the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), and Brian Warren of Nviro are all up for Leader of the Year. Rising Star nominees include Martina Alexandrino of Principle Cleaning Services, Mattia Capozzi of Markas, Jade Collazo of Cleanology, and Zach Corbett of Momentum Support.
Each and every finalist has made a significant contribution to the cleaning and hygiene sector. We cannot wait to celebrate with them at the glittering awards event in Brussels on 28 April, and crown our 2022 winners.
