have undoubtedly helped to reduce transmission in both commercial and domestic environments. When considering the visibility and frequency of cleaning, one in five businesses (20%) believe this will be the biggest trend for the cleaning industry in 2022.
Alastair added: “This trend has remained of high importance since our last research was conducted in December 2020 and demonstrates just how much public perceptions of cleaning have shifted to relying on the presence of janitorial staff. At present, businesses are struggling to manage the impact of the Omicron variant on staff shortages and cleaning regimes.
“Our recommendation here would be to look at products that can improve efficiency without compromising results.
Apprentice numbers grow at Christeyns
Christeyns, manufacturers and suppliers of detergents and supporting chemicals for the UK laundry sector, has recently taken on four new apprentices.
Isabel Hardwick joined the firm as Apprentice Quality Control Technician following success in her A level examinations. Izzy’s apprenticeship will last four years and incorporates working towards a BSc (Honours) in Chemistry at Bradford University.
Danny Clarke and Tom Grundell have both taken up two- year apprenticeships as HGV Drivers. During this time, they will study to obtain an NVQ Level 2 in Supply Chain & Warehousing, as well as their LGV C+E (Class 1) Licences.
Recently, Bradley Jones took on the role of Business Administration Apprentice after previously working for Christeyns on a temporary contract in the Powder Production department. Bradley’s apprenticeship will run for two years and include studying for a Level 3 qualification in Business Administration.
This means looking for products that can save time for end users, such as a microfibre mop system that uses pre- soaked pads which can be quickly and hygienically changed to prevent cross-contamination and don't require repeatedly changing mop bucket water.
“It can be difficult to strike the right balance, but what the pandemic has shown us is that greater visibility of cleaning processes is here to stay. Businesses that haven’t yet investigated ways they can improve efficiencies for their staff and customers, and do so more sustainability, are likely to be left behind as our sector continues to innovate to deliver superior cleaning results that improve hygiene and boost infection control.”

The four new apprentices join Chemical Engineering apprentice Harry Coop, now in his second year of studying at Bradford University to achieve a BSc (Honours) in Chemistry, and Hena Arif, a QHSE Technician, who will study for a Level 3 Health, Safety and Environmental qualification in 2022.
At the chemical manufacturing specialist, apprenticeships are very much a part of the business structure and play a crucial role in taking the company forward. HR Manager Sarah Stringer stated: “Our apprenticeship scheme is key for succession planning, identifying and growing talent to fill leadership and business-critical positions in the future. This helps to keep the business at the top of its game.”
Providing young people with the right skills and opportunities is vital for the future prosperity of both Christeyns and the industry, and the company views its apprenticeship scheme as a crucial part of the recruitment strategy. The company's goal is to offer permanent roles to all apprentices who go through their scheme.
