SPOTLIGHT ON: The Schlüter-Systems’ Innovation Workshops
Every month, we put the Spotlight on something flooring related that we think is of interest to the industry. This month, we take a closer look at Schlüter-Systems’ Innovation Workshops, which have proved so popular that one group of tilers arranged their very own roadtrip online.
People will go far and wide for good training, and with many travelling from all over the UK to complete all four workshops in just two days, organising a roadtrip online to Schlüter-Systems’ Innovation Workshops seemed like the perfect opportunity. Arranging their trip via the hashtag #Tilersontour on the popular social networking site, Twitter, the group of tilers were brought together through recommendations from others who had already taken advantage of the Schlüter workshops. Chief organiser, Stewart Nisbet from SPM Design in Dumfermline, explained

more: “I was familiar with Schlüter products and had installed them on previous projects. However, like all good tilers, I wanted to ensure my skills were still up to scratch and nothing beats getting to grips with products first hand. So, when I discovered that Schlüter were running workshops, I was really keen to attend.”
“I began using Twitter to approach a number of other tilers and the idea of attending soon grew into a full blown roadtrip, with three of us travelling from Fife and Orkney, two from Manchester and one from County Armagh. With
such a distance to travel to the Leicestershire- based workshops, we approached Schlüter to ask if it would be possible to accommodate all four workshops into a two day programme. Thankfully, they were more than willing to accommodate and their assistance in helping us arrange various aspects of our trip was invaluable.”
Held at their head office in Leicestershire, each workshop focuses on detailed, practical and hands-on training for tile specialists, with each focusing on a different key area: Substrate Preparation, Shower and
Wetroom Installation, Exterior Installations on Balconies and Terraces and Modular Screeds and Underfloor Heating.
Usually structured as one day workshops, it was Schlüter’s Business Development Manager, Andrew Curry’s job, to accommodate the needs of the ‘Tilers on tour’. He said: “We were delighted to bring some flexibility into these workshops for this very unique and enthusiastic group and combine, but by no means take away, the key aspects of our workshops into a two-day programme. Throughout the two days, there was
