• Members from the Ambulance Services, who are on call to attend a wide variety of medical emergencies

• Field nurses from the Ministry of Defence

“The importance of good hand hygiene is very well articulated,” said Jo Long, Account Manager and Katrin Academy Manager for Metsa Tissue. “However, the diffi culty in having access to clean hand towels while you're visiting homes, attending accident sites, providing nursing in war zones or just simply delivering medical services on the move, was clearly highlighted as a major issue by all those responsible for a wide range of medical activities, who came on the stand at the IPS show.”

The Katrin Easy Packs are self- contained sleeves of hand towels which are extremely mobile, but which are always protected from moisture, dirt or germs. The built in dispenser is easy to use, and the product is compact, lightweight and easy to carry. The Easy Packs are delivered in the Katrin Handy Pack technology, so they can be easily stored in any mode of transport (ambulances, paramedic bikes, etc)

them said that often, they are simply presented with ‘solutions’ by the procurement teams or buyers. They felt that it would prove extremely benefi cial now that they were aware of such innovative packaging and other product sets, they could bring that knowledge to the table in procurement situations”.

and a single sleeve taken wherever the staff member goes.

Interest in the Easy Packs was also expressed by dentists and care home workers, who all mention that they often have piles of hand towels sitting around to try and make access easier, but they were all too aware that this is not a hygienic approach. Germs are in the air in any environment, but especially in these patient situations. In addition, the towels can get knocked over and there is no consumption control when they are stored like this, so usage can increase dramatically. Everyone who saw the products commented on how well the Katrin Easy Packs address these mobile requirements which have been largely ignored by the industry until now.

“For Metsä, another benefi t was hearing the point of view of infection control nurses,” said Tony Cook, Account Manager for Metsä Tissue. He continued: “Having spent three days talking to people in this important function, many of

“The show was a great success for Metsä Tissue”, said Mark Dewick, Metsä Tissue Sales Director for UK and Ireland. He continued: “We always value direct end user interaction, and coming away with a large number of prospective business opportunities is an added bonus. In addition, we won the “Best Newcomer Stand” award at the end of the show, so a great time all round.”

Almost nine months after the Easy Pack products were fi rst introduced, the Katrin team are already looking at the next generation of the packaging. Mark explained: “Taking into account customer enthusiasm for the product, and experience in usage, we have refi ned the product to deliver enhanced pack opening and even more attractive packaging, featuring clear delineation to indicate how much product is left in the pack.”

“The new products will be called Easy Picks - a reference to the enhanced opening, and will be available in the New Year. We very much hope to have the opportunity to present Easy Pick to the IPS audience at next year’s show.”
