Axis Cleaning And Support Services Makes A Strategic Appointment

Axis Cleaning and Support Services, part of the Axis Group, has appointed a new Senior Business Development Manager, to drive growth and help the business become the supplier of choice for commercial cleaning services.

Julian Kelly joins Axis Cleaning and Support Services covering London and the South, bringing with him over 25 years of knowledge and experience within the cleaning and support services industry. Julian’s career started in the aviation industry and moved into Facilities Management in 2000. He also has direct experience with Axis, having worked for LPM Cleaning and Support Services as a Business Development Manager, before it was re-launched and rebranded as Axis Cleaning and Support Services.

“The success of the re-brand was one of the key reasons that I was attracted back to the company,”

explained Julian. “The company has nurtured a reputation as a dynamic and sophisticated solutions provider, but with the re-launch of the business comes ambitious plans to expand its client base and become an industry leader. Coming back to a business that continues to grow and develop is exciting, and the welcome I have received from the strong managerial team has assured me of the strength of the re-launched company and the wider Axis Group.”

Julian’s appointment follows that of Stuart Buswell as Managing Director; he shares Stuart’s aims to strengthen the business’ sales strategy and growth ambitions. His role has so far involved preparing responses to tenders, managing Axis’ presence at the recent British Council of Shopping Centre (BCSC) exhibition, and compiling a development strategy that focuses on retail, shopping centres, healthcare and professional services.

New Dyson Airblade dB Hand Dryer Is Now 50% Quieter

Dyson engineers have re-engineered the apertures of their hand dryer to reduce air turbulence. Two sheets of high-velocity, unheated air travel through 0.4mm, scallop-shaped apertures, quickly scrape water from hands like a windscreen wiper, leaving them fully dry. The scallop design increases the distance travelled by the two sheets of air before they collide.

An overhanging lip on the front aperture alters the angle of the air exiting the machine, further reducing the sound made when the sheets collide. When jets of air travelling at 430mph collide, air turbulence results. The turbulence creates the noise, but this model is 50% quieter than its predecessor - with no compromise on performance, it dries hands in just 10 seconds.

James Dyson said: 16 | NEWSFLASH “Powerful

machines create noise. Others might decelerate their motor, reducing airflow, and therefore performance, to make machines they claim to be ‘quiet’. But by focusing on acoustic engineering, Dyson engineers ensured that Airblade is still the fastest hand dryer, but with reduced volume.”

A team of 25 specialist acousticians work hard to reduce vibrations, hone airflow and change the motor’s tone to engineer machines that are quieter and have better sound quality, while maintaining high performance. £1.5million is spent every year researching noise-cancelling technologies and designing specialised acoustic components, so this is a money saver as well as a time saver.

In strengthening their Business Development team, Stuart is confident that Julian will bring the required knowledge and expertise to further grow the company. “Julian’s wealth of experience means he understands the cleaning and facilities management industry inside and out,” said Stuart. “His appointment puts us in an ideal position to develop the business in our areas of focus.”

Sachets Slash Costs

In response to requests from several large NHS Trusts, SYR has introduced a cost-effective sachet-based antimicrobial hair and body wash. The 25ml sachets offer savings of up to 80% compared to existing decolonisation practices.

SYR Healthcare Manager, Matthew Rea, said: “At the moment, hospitals are sending out bottles of wash prior to admissions, only a small amount of which is ever used – the rest is just discarded by the patient. Our sachets cut this waste entirely, meaning it is much more cost-effective.”

It is estimated that around 75% of each bottle of skin disinfectant is wasted. SYR’s new formula also shows a significant improvement in effectiveness compared to existing products. It does not have to be left on for any length of time, but can be applied and washed straight off, making it simple for users.
