43 Green Solutions The new dimension of temperature control
As laboratories worldwide evolve toward greater digitalisation and sustainability, the demand for temperature control solutions that can adapt to these changing needs has never been higher. Lauda has responded to this challenge with the revolutionary new product line: LAUDA Universa.
Four pillars of innovation
The development of LAUDA Universa was guided by four fundamental principles that defi ne the future of laboratory temperature control: customisability, performance, connectivity, and sustainability.
Customisability lies at the heart of the modular design philosophy. The Universa series comprises three performance variants – ECO, PRO, and MAX – and multiple bath size options allowing laboratories to select the precise confi guration that matches their requirements and budget. What sets this system apart is its unprecedented fl exibility: baths, control heads, and cooling units can be combined and recombined as needs evolve. This modular approach means laboratories can start with a basic confi guration and expand capabilities over time, protecting their investment while adapting to changing research demands.
Performance remains uncompromised across the entire range. With temperature coverage from -90 to 300°C and stability up to ±0.01 K, Universa thermostats deliver the precision that modern research demands. Heating outputs reaching 3.7 kW and cooling outputs up to 1.6 kW ensure rapid temperature transitions, accelerating research timelines without sacrifi cing accuracy.
Connectivity represents perhaps the most forward-thinking advancement. Every Universa thermostat comes standard with USB, Ethernet, and WiFi interfaces, enabling seamless integration into existing laboratory networks. Through the LAUDA Command app, researchers can control their equipment remotely, while
LAUDA.LIVE Services IoT platform provides comprehensive data acquisition and is gearing up for predictive maintenance capabilities.
The PRO and MAX variants extend this connectivity further with up to eleven different interface modules, supporting everything from analogue signals to advanced protocols like EtherCAT and OPC/UA. This extensive connectivity prepares laboratories for the AI-driven optimisation solutions already being developed in partnership with leading universities.
Sustainability is fundamental to Universa’s design. Every thermostat uses exclusively natural refrigerants in quantities under 100 grams, while speed-controlled compressors with inverter technology dramatically reduce energy consumption during typical partial-load operation. The result is not only environmental responsibility but also signifi cantly quieter operation and lower operating costs.
Building on legacy, embracing the future
The Universa line honours the legacy of Dr Rudolf Wobser’s groundbreaking U 8 universal thermostat from 1949, while embracing today’s technological possibilities. With a fi ve-year premium warranty available and global CE and NRTL certifi cations, LAUDA Universa represents not just an evolution in temperature control, but a revolution that will defi ne laboratory standards for years to come.
