Laboratory Products 35 GMP-grade enzymes streamline clinical cell isolation

Amsbio, in collaboration with Nordmark Biochemicals, has broadened access to high-purity collagenase and neutral protease enzymes, now available in GMP-grade formats designed to meet the stringent demands of clinical tissue dissociation protocols.

These enzymes - sourced from Clostridium histolyticum - play a vital role in the isolation of viable cells from dense or complex tissue samples, a foundational step in regenerative medicine, cell therapy, and tissue engineering. The enhanced GMP-grade versions ensure researchers and clinicians alike can rely on robust, reproducible workflows that comply with evolving regulatory expectations.

Manufactured in facilities adhering to EU GMP standards and additional global quality frameworks - including the FDA’s CFR and ISO guidelines - these enzymes are backed by comprehensive quality control processes. Each lot undergoes rigorous testing to guarantee consistency, with verified virus inactivation and TSE safety certification.

Importantly, the enzymes have been incorporated into recent GMP-compliant protocols for mesenchymal stem cell isolation and production, as documented in studies such as Williams et al. (2025), further validating their suitability for clinical applications.

To support translational workflows, Amsbio offers both research-grade and GMP-grade versions of these enzymes with matching activity profiles. This allows users to develop and optimise methods with research-grade reagents, then seamlessly move to GMP products without revalidating their processes - a significant advantage in accelerating time to clinic.

For scientists advancing cellular therapies from bench to bedside, these clinically validated enzymes offer reliability, flexibility, and regulatory peace of mind. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/kkVd

Streamlined automation advances T-cell cancer research

New analytical and precision balances

KERN & SOHN GmbH is launching new analytical and precision balances in the KERN ADS/ADT ranges (analytical balances) and KERN PDS/PDT ranges (precision balances). Designed for laboratories, industry, and research, they offer high measurement accuracy.

They are equipped with a semi-touch display, which offers a combination of a touchscreen as well as the standard control buttons. The main functions, such as switching the weighing unit or carrying out the adjustment can be activated directly from the display.

There are two ways to carry out the adjustment. ADT (analytical) and PDT (precision) models have automatic adjustment with an internal weight, while ADS and PDS models use an external weight. This ensures flexibility for different applications and environments.

3T Biosciences, a biotech company pioneering immune-based therapies for solid tumours, is accelerating its drug discovery workflows with the help of automation tools from Integra Biosciences.

The South San Francisco-based company specialises in identifying novel peptide-HLA targets for T-cell engaging bispecific antibodies using its proprietary 3T-TRACE™ platform. By combining diverse antigen libraries with machine learning, the platform enables high- resolution mapping of tumour-specific immune responses - critical to uncovering the most prevalent immunogenic targets in solid cancers.

To support growing demands for precision and throughput, the team has integrated Integra’s ASSIST PLUS pipetting robot alongside the D-ONE single channel module into their workflows. These tools are being used for tasks such as protein normalisation and aliquoting - processes that benefit from consistent and accurate liquid handling.

“Our goal is to build scalable, reproducible workflows that can adapt to the complexity of therapeutic discovery,” said Jake Kleiner, Associate Scientist at 3T Biosciences. “The ASSIST PLUS, combined with Integra’s intuitive VIALAB software, allows us to rapidly deploy automated protocols without needing extensive programming knowledge. It’s already had a noticeable impact on efficiency and reproducibility.”

In addition to automation, the lab continues to rely on Integra’s manual pipettes for flexible, hands-on workflows. Looking ahead, 3T Biosciences aims to expand automation into more of its screening and assay development activities.

Kleiner added: “We’re now exploring how automation can increase our high-throughput capacity and standardise more of our assays. These improvements will help us push therapeutic candidates forward more rapidly.”

The new models provide rapid, stable measuring results through modern sensor technology. They offer various functions for diverse applications. The statistics function calculates key figures such as the average value and standard deviation. Tolerance weighing checks whether a weight is within predefined limits, piece counting determines quantities using a reference weight, and percentage weighing displays a sample’s weight as a percentage of a reference value.

Several transfer options are available for data processing. The Windows-Direct function sends weights directly to a Windows application using a USB device connection. As an alternative, the measurements can be forwarded to connected systems using RS 232 and USB (device).

The KERN Communication Protocol allows connection to a computer or CRM/ERP system, enabling measurement retrieval and remote control in automated processes. All models allow for GLP/ISO compliant data logging, recording date, time, and a unique ID for each adjustment or weighing. This guarantees complete traceability and supports use in regulated laboratory and production environments in accordance with the requirements of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
