39 Safety, Hazard Containment & Sterilising Equipment Adding Acids to Digestion Vessels – A Health and Safety Concern?

Operator exposure to acid fumes especially with working with multiple acids is a possible concern for health and safety when adding acids to digestion vessels. In addition, the task takes valuable operator time that limits laboratory productivity and the ability of the chemist to accomplish other tasks.

The Milestone easyFILL acid dosing station from Analytix removes all these concerns by providing automated dosing of up to six acids (including HF) and reducing operator time to just a few seconds.

The dosing compartment and all parts in contact with acids are manufactured from anticorrosive materials and the system is controlled via a Microsoft Surface GO with customised software that has pre-stored rack configurations. For routine processes, it is possible to create a library of customised methods with the type and volume of reagents and the number of vessel positions.

Clean-room Workbench Eliminates Particles

New TUV EN 12469 Certifi ed Microbiological Safety Cabinet

Labconco® is excited to introduce ReVo™, another microbiological safety cabinet that adds to its diverse portfolio of collective protection devices against biological hazards. ReVo is a new Class II, Type A2 biosafety solution, carefully designed with simplicity in mind.

ReVo provides personnel, product, and environment protection against pathogens and hazardous particles with multiple features that enhance performance and containment. Advanced blower technology with CAP™ constant monitoring creates a quiet and sterile workspace to protect users and their samples. A comprehensive user interface alerts users of unsafe conditions through clear visual and audible signals. Each model includes a fully stainless-steel interior for easy cleaning and decontamination, and the construction of the cabinet is approved by TUV Nord according to EN 12469 standard.

ReVo safety cabinets offer unsurpassed comfort through ergonomic design, including inflow grilles angled to provide comfortable posture, a glare-free 270-degree panoramic view of the workspace, and conveniently positioned display and controls. It’s also one of the quietest MSCs in the world. Laboratories can conduct their research in a low-noise working environment, even when multiple MSCs are positioned in the same room.

Labconco products excel in reducing energy consumption of their equipment without compromising performance, and ReVo exemplifies this commitment. It offers extreme energy efficiency, plus Night-Smart™ technology that intelligently reduces blower speed between uses to save energy while maintaining a sterile environment.

No matter whether it be the semiconductor fabrication or medical or pharmaceuticals industries, many sectors are attaching increasing importance to producing and manufacturing components in a clean, particle-free environment. The primary fields of application for the Spetec clean-room workbench or mini environment are in the optical, electronic and mechanical industries. The clean-room workbench can be tailored to meet customer needs and the required clean room class. In other words, the size, features and design of the workbench are adapted as required.

As a rule, the unit is made from special aluminium profiles suitable for use in clean rooms. The side walls can be made from glass or acrylic glass, or the box can be surrounded by a strip curtain. A laminar flow module is then fitted at the top, which delivers class 5 clean room conditions inside the box. This corresponds to a mere 100 0.5 µm particles. Compared with an approximate particle count of 1 million per cubic foot in a typical office or laboratory, this represents a 10 000-fold increase in air quality.

The key difference compared with a Spetec Laminar Flow Box (FBS Series, table unit) lies in the fact that the size and features of the clean-room workbench can be fully tailored to the needs of the customer, for instance in respect of the choice of work surface, which is available as perforated steel, stainless steel or hard laminate. The result is a self-contained, tailored clean-room workbench.

AstellBio Liquid Waste Autoclaves at ChemUK 2023

AstellBio – the leading manufacturer of thermal effl uent decontamination systems and liquid waste autoclaves in the UK, will be exhibiting ChemUK 2023 on the 10th and 11th May 2023. The event marks a number of fi rsts – being the fi rst instance of CHEMLAB – a laboratory-focussed

show within ChemUK, the fi rst live premiering of the AstellBio Sink & Autoclave Combo – a combination unit containing a traditional autoclave and a liquid waste autoclave, and the fi rst trade show that AstellBio has attended as a stand-alone brand.

The company hopes that its new range of liquid waste autoclaves – such as the AstellBio Sink – will fi nd an audience with ChemUK’s new CHEMLAB show by appealing to laboratory staff’s need for safer, cleaner ways of sterilising liquid waste. Meanwhile their larger effl uent decontamination systems will be of interest to businesses who have traditionally used chemical methods to sterilise large volumes of wastewater.

“In 2023 we want to make sure everyone is aware of our cleaner, safer ways to decontaminate and dispose of biologically contaminated liquid waste, and these free-to-attend events are an excellent chance to do so” said Astell & AstellBio’s Sales and Marketing Director, Paul Birchmore. “Our latest range of small liquid waste autoclaves provides research laboratories with the same thermal wastewater treatment technology that our large-scale effl uent decontamination systems have provided to many other industries.”

AstellBio will be exhibiting on Booth C74 at ChemUK 2023, 10th to 11th May 2023.
