Compact Modular Detectors for Biomolecular Applications

Biotech Fluidics reports that the biocompatible flow path and minimal heat output of its Runge Mikron detectors makes them perfect for analysis and preparative purification of biomolecules, especially in refrigerated environments.

Based upon fixed wavelength LED light sources with a lifetime of more than 5000 hours, power consumption below 2.5 watts, and start-up within seconds, Runge Mikron detectors are ideal for incorporation into portable field instruments and online monitoring devices.

Runge Mikron detectors are available for photometric, fluorimetry and conductivity measurements. Measuring only

80-150 mm long, each modular detector light source, filter and measuring cell can be adapted to provide an optimised solution for your application.

Different modules can also be combined to provide a fluidic monitoring system for more challenging biomolecular applications. Typically, Runge Mikron detectors are more affordable and compact than a fully variable detector.

Runge Mikron detectors are easy to connect to almost any instrument as they communicate through and draw power from a single USB-C port. Drivers are provided for a growing range of laboratory control and chromatography software. Alternatively, an open protocol can be used for customised implementation. The detectors conform to international standards and are CE marked.

New App Allows Remote Control of Tube Barcode Readers via Wi-Fi

Ziath has released an updated version of its well-received DP5 Network app, which now allows tube barcode readers and scanners to be controlled remotely through a Wi-Fi connection using a smartphone or tablet.

DP5 Mobile is equipped with cutting-edge software tools that deliver unparalleled speed and precision in decoding barcoded tube racks. The app features a brand-new user interface that is specifically designed for mobile devices, enhancing your user experience. With DP5 Mobile, you are no longer restricted to the lab bench as you can use your tablet or smartphone to operate a tube scanner from anywhere within your local area network (LAN), including your compound stores or freezers.

The DP5 Mobile app is designed with user-friendliness in mind, providing you with the ability to download and access result files with ease. You can easily share these files through various applications on your phone or tablet, not just through email. The app also boosts productivity by

consolidating all necessary information onto a single scan result page. The app’s unique mobile functionality includes larger scan images, image zooming, selected tube highlighting, as well as the capability to view auto-exported results, scan time questions and answers.

DP5 Mobile offers a swift and secure user experience, enabling you to export tube positions and barcodes in a wide range of formats including JSON, XLS, CSV, Text, PDF, PNG, and Python, exceeding what other apps can offer. You can effortlessly transfer the data to a colleague or your desktop PC after exporting it in your preferred format.

Although any camera-based reader or scanner is capable of running DP5 Standard software, Ziath DataPaq™ Express and DataPaq™ Mirage 2D-barcode rack readers are the only models currently available that can be equipped with LAN adaptors and RJ45 connectors to run the latest DP5 Mobile software.

New Proficiency Test Detects Listeria in Feed

A new interlaboratory test (PTS 105B) is being introduced by BIPEA which enables laboratories to identify the presence of Listeria spp and Listeria monocytogenes in feed.

In the initial round, BIPEA will provide three 25g samples of compound animal feed to participating laboratories. These laboratories will be required to identify the presence of Listeria spp and Listeria monocytogenes using reference methods (ISO 11290-1) or alternative techniques.

This test is scheduled for May 2023.

BIPEA has been catering to testing laboratories concerned with analytical accuracy and quality control across different fields such as food, environment, surface, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals for over 50 years by offering a diverse range of proficiency tests and external reference materials.
