Laboratory Products 39 Extended Spectrum of Applications for Centrifugation Introduced
Eppendorf has introduced the high-capacity fi xed-angle Rotor FA-6x250 for up to 6 x 250 mL bottles. The Rotor FA-6x250 extends the application range of the large benchtop Centrifuges 5910 R and 5920 R, which encompasses harvesting of bacteria, algae and yeast, as well as mammalian cells, in vessels up to 250 mL. An additional area of application now includes plasmid DNA extractions and lysate clearance following cell lysis.
A broad selection of 12 different adapters minimises the need for cumbersome rotor exchanges during the workfl ow; numerous vessel types of various volumes can now be accommodated by simply switching adapters. This simplifi es handling and saves time.
The Eppendorf Centrifuges 5910 R and 5920 R also offer a large variety of rotors, thus serving countless applications in vessels ranging from 0.5 mL to 1,000 mL in volume. In the past, the use of 250 mL fl at bottom bottles had been limited to swing-bucket rotors with a maximum speed just over 5,000 x g. The new fi xed-angle rotor FA-6x250 now delivers a speed of up to 15,054 x g, effectively extending the range of application of the large Eppendorf benchtop centrifuges.

New System Provides Accurate and Safe Bottle-top Dispensing of Many Common Laboratory Liquids
Gilson have introduced DISPENSMAN™, a bottle-top dispenser for convenient, safe, and precise delivery of common laboratory solutions and solvents. DISPENSMAN continues the innovation of Gilson’s liquid handling line, which also includes PIPETMAN®
, the fi rst continuously adjustable-volume pipette.
DISPENSMAN has an innovative, three-position nozzle that controls the dispensing of liquids, the removal of air in the system to avoid liquid loss, and includes an anti-drip safety feature that returns liquid to the bottle. Make volume changes quickly and easily by pushing to unlock and then sliding the volume adjuster to the desired dispensing volume with no need to open bottles, decreasing chances of contamination.
DISPENSMAN is easily calibrated by the user and accommodates most liquids including many acids, bases, and solvents. The system is autoclavable, and does not require consumables such as tips.
Five DISPENSMAN models are available that cover various volume ranges from as low as 0.25 mL up to 50 mL. All meet ISO 8655 specifi cations. A variety of adaptors are also available that allow the DISPENSMAN to be used with most common bottle types.

New Addition to Humidity Control System with Support for Nitrogen Gas Announced
The RH95 Relative Humidity Controller provides precise environmental sample control to Linkam’s range of temperature stages. Since its introduction, there have been many applications found ranging from testing and characterising new photovoltaic materials, research into new battery technologies to the characterisation of pharmaceuticals. The RH95 can be used to control humidity
inside one of Linkam’s many temperature stages or other sealed chamber up to a volume of 2000 ml from 5 to 90% RH. Unlike other humidity control systems, no costly dry air supply is required. Ambient air is dried through a specially designed automatic recycling desiccant system and so can be left controlling humidity for months at a time.
Rather than simply monitoring the humidity of the air supplied to the chamber, a sensor is mounted inside the chamber to create a feedback loop to the controller, ensuring precise control. Humidity can have a signifi cant effect on the properties of a material. These include cosmetic surface effects to changes in a sample’s mechanical properties and chemical changes such as creating polymorphs. Such experiments can be performed with the RH95 and Linkam heating cooling stages such as the LTS420 and THMS600 or the TST350 tensile stage.
Linkam have introduced a custom-designed gas regulator for the RH95 controller. As well as drawing air through the chamber, users now have the option to use nitrogen as the carrier gas for the water vapour The regulator allows the use of bottled or piped nitrogen gas with up to 5Bar input, which is automatically regulated down to a safe level for use with the
RH95.The use of nitrogen as a carrier gas is important for studies where researchers want to remove the effects of oxidation and corrosion that may be caused by oxygen in ambient air. This opens up a whole new range of applications and experiments for the RH95 such as isolation studies.
