Nitrite Measurement Nitrite has long been
regarded as a parameter of secondary importance in wastewater plant management. However, as the limits of the total Nitrogen discharge values are getting tighter, and with the requirements of the European Water Framework Directive from 2015 onward in mind, this attitude is gradually changing.
Another reason for the limited interest for Nitrite was the fact that no cheap and
easy-to-operate on-line measuring instruments were available. Now, WTW’s (Germany) - a Xylem brand new UV spectral sensors NiCaVis 701 IQ NI and NiCaVis 705 IQ NI, covering a wave length range from 200 to 390 nm and measuring 256 wave lengths can measure Nitrite by a spectral method analogous to Nitrate. The sensors can be used not only for Nitrite and Nitrate measurement, but also for COD, TOC, BOD, DOC, SAC and UVT254 in the influent, biological tank and effluent of municipal wastewater treatment plants,.
Of course the new sensors have all the advantages of WTW’s proven UV-VIS sensors: accuracy, long-term stability, rugged titanium housing and low maintenance thanks to WTW‘s unique ultrasound cleaning system.
