VISOCOLOR® SCHOOL Reagent Case

The VISOCOLOR® SCHOOL reagent case is especially designed for schools and caters to the needs of both students and teachers. To determine the most important water parameters, the case contains 6 colorimetric and titrimetric tests for at least 50 determinations each. All reagents are approved to be used in schools in Germany and can be disposed of easily just down the drain without any harm to the environment. The newly developed tests are based on our proven VISOCOLOR® system and were developed specifically for schools as high quality VISOCOLOR® SCHOOL tests.

The Next Generation of Spectral Sensors for Accuracy and Repeatability

WTW(USA), a Xylem brand, has announced the launch of the next generation of spectral sensors at IFAT ENTSORGA 2012. The new CarboVis, NitraVis and NiCaVis sensors offer precise and reliable online measurement of parameters including nitrate, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total organic carbon (TOC) and total suspended solids (TSS).

Able to carry out fast measurements across an extensive range of parameters, the spectral sensors incorporate a new optical design to guarantee the highest levels of accuracy, whilst ensuring repeatability and stability of the optical system. The drift-free sensors guarantee reliable data over extended periods of time, without the need for routine maintenance. To further ensure optimum performance, the sensors use a full UV-VIS spectral wave length range from 200- 720 nm to provide the best measurement results and to compensate for disturbing influences such as turbidity.

In many optical systems, contamination from turbidity and suspended solids can cause errors. Furthermore, once contamination of the optical system has begun, additional build-up of particles progresses at an accelerated rate. The new WTW spectral sensors overcome this challenge by featuring an integrated ultrasonic cleaning system that generates high-frequency vibrations of the optical windows. This prevents accumulation of any contaminants, ensuring low maintenance and reliable measurements for continuous operation. In addition, the sensors have been developed using high-tech materials including titanium and polyether ether ketone (PEEK) to withstand harsh conditions for extreme durability over the entire lifespan of the sensor.

New Range of Submersible Tank Gauging Transmitters

A range of submersible tank gauging level transmitters for small tanks and containers is now available in the UK from instrumentation specialist Impress Sensors & Systems (UK).

Manufactured by Impress Sensors, the new IMTG range of transmitters is designed for continuous submersion in liquids such as water, oils and fuels. The transmitters are ideally suited to applications in small (0 to 10 metre depth) tanks or containers, where conventional mechanical level switches and sensors are not suitable because of reliability issues and a higher degree of level ‘control’ and measurement is required. WRAS-approved versions of the transmitter are also available for drinking water applications. Typical applications include measurements of static tank level, container or chamber level, and vehicle tank level.

The IMTG transmitters use a piezoresistive, silicon pressure sensing technology and a stainless steel diaphragm, which provide excellent stability, repeatability and resolution. The sensor housing is made from stainless steel, making it ideal for reliable, repeatable hydrostatic level measurement. The sensors are available in nominal pressure ranges from 0.5mWG to 10mWG. An optional self-flushing nose cone is also available.

All IMTG sensors are temperature-compensated, calibrated and supplied with a traceable serial number and calibration certificate. Operating (media) temperatures are from -20 deg C to +60 deg C in non-freezing media. Cable material is either PVC, PUR, FEP or TPE, enabling compatibility with any media.

Impress Sensors will be exhibiting at IWEX 2012 (International Water & Effluent Exhibition) at the NEC from 22-24 May 2012 (stand E48), and at the WWEM (Water, Wastewater & Environmental Monitoring) exhibition, from 7-8 November 2012 at the Telford International Centre (stand 58).

Accurately Measure Hydrocarbon (Oil/Grease) Levels in Produced Water in Under 15 Minutes

Determining total hydrocarbon or oil/grease levels to ensure compliance with regulatory permit requirements for discharging produced water is a worldwide problem facing the oil and gas industry. Ensuring compliance with these regulations and avoiding fines for non-compliant discharges requires more frequent wastewater measurements to determine the total hydrocarbon concentration. The portable InfraCal TOG/TPH Analysers manufactured by Wilks Enterprise (USA) have been specifically designed for easy, on- site measurement of the hydrocarbon (oil/grease) concentration level in water in under 15 minutes and are built for years of dependable operation.

InfraCal TOG/TPH Analysers, based on field-proven infrared technology, enable non-technical users to obtain accurate measurements with a few simple steps. Measurement data correlates with EPA Method 1664 and ASTM Method D7066. Currently, there are upwards of 2,500 InfraCal Analysers in worldwide operation – many on oil and gas drilling platforms. Their performance and reliability have made them the industry standard for determining hydrocarbon (oil/grease) concentration levels in water – both on-shore and off-shore. Regular on-site measurements eliminate the wait for off-site laboratory results to ensure wastewater treatment systems are operating properly and effluent discharges are in compliance.
