Gas Detection - UK Focus i
The AIRQUAL-1 – Providing Stand Alone compliance of BS EN 12021
New Colorimetric Detector Provides Low Level Detection for a Wide Range of Gases
DOD Technologies Europe – represented by a1-cbiss (UK) – has launched a new portable colorimetric detection device. The Next Generation ChemLogic Portable (CLPX) provides low level gas detection at ppb levels in a wide variety of applications (Polyurethane Foam - Health Surveys, Specialty Chemical - Emergency Response, Waste Water Treatment - Odour Control).
With improved optics design and automated optics calibration, the CLPX is the most reliable, fool proof, user friendly gas detector on the market.
The CLPX is a versatile instrument that can be configured to detect a variety of gases, eliminating the need to purchase different instruments or different gas keys to sample different gases. Changing the instrument from detecting one gas to another requires a simple change of cassette.
The CLPX uses DOD Technologies’ accurate ChemLogic tape technology to detect diisocyanates, hydrides, mineral acids and other toxic gases. It utilises the most advanced electronics and analysis software to meet the needs of health and safety professionals.

The guidelines of BS EN 12021 state that “in any event all contaminants shall be kept to as low a level as possible and shall be below the national exposure limit.” In compliance with this statement, it is required that any compressed air used for breathing equipment must not contain any contaminants at a harmful level that will have a damaging effect. In order to keep in check with the stringent regulations regular tests must be carried out.
Keen to create an affordable yet high quality solution to compressed air testing, a1-cbiss called on their 23 years experience and market knowledge to produce the AIRQUAL-1. With everything you need contained in one convenient, lightweight aluminium case and free from power, the AIRQUAL-1 is suitable for a variety of applications, including offshore oil rigs and on-site visits.
The AIRQUAL-1 successfully demonstrates the capability to carry out an ‘on the spot’ test yet still keep in full compliance with BS EN12021. It is designed for use with the Gastec gas sampling tubes, which display immediate readings and provide the user with a variety of tube choices available to test different ranges. Sampling of compressed air is fast, with the ability to process results in less than minutes. Concentrations of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxygen and oil & mist can be determined almost instantly without further lab analysis. The AIRQUAL- 1 lets you feel confident, without additional tests, that your compressed air quality is hitting the mark.
The ease of use combined with the convenience of the AIRQUAL-1 allows first time users to open it up and carry out compressed air tests immediately. To ensure minimal fuss whilst testing your compressed air, the AIRQUAL-1 comes with everything you need to carry out a basic test. It includes;
4 x packs of Gastec Airtec Tubes (10 tubes per pack),
GasBadge Plus (O2 sensor), A stopwatch - to measure sample flow, Selection valve for pressure and flow, Flow meters for the air and gas tubes, A screwdriver - to adjust flow, Testpad - to record results and Tip breaker
The launch of the AIRQUAL-1 has seen tremendous success so far with Andy of Air Services commenting “I have found it a very straight-forward piece of equipment to use and the fact that it requires no power supply or pre-charging of batteries has proved to be a big plus. The procedure is easy to understand - I felt very confident using the unit after carrying out only a couple of tests. The Airqual-1 is very attractively priced and had it been available a couple of years ago I would have bought it then. I am pleased that I hadn't already purchased one of the more expensive competitor's units as the ROI period for this option will be very short.”
The AIRQUAL-1 is single sourced; everything from the design to the quality control is carried out using the facilities of the in-house service centre. In addition, a1-cbiss boast the ability to provide support nationwide and offer a dedicated customer service team who are on hand to answer any technical queries.
With no additional equipment, no need for batteries (or charging) and an on-site calibration function, the AIRQUAL- 1 keeps servicing costs at an absolute minimum making it the ideal kit for compressed air testing.
