Environmental Analysis New Laqua Range of Meters
Manufacturer of bench top meters HORIBA (Germany) is launching the LAQUA range its latest generation of instruments using the expertise from a company that has been manufacturing pH meters for more than 60 years and sold more than ¼ million instruments.
The range marries high performance with stylish design, industry first, touch screen interface. HORIBA has focused the development of the bench top meter to provide durable user-friendly meters for the laboratory professional. Advanced functionalities and a huge array of electrodes provide high precision, reliable measurement with improved response time in a huge variety of applications - from routine measurement to coping with extreme conditions.
LAQUA series consist of single and dual channel meters that can measure the most commonly used parameters in electrochemistry as pH, ORP, Ion, Conductivity, Resistivity,
Salinity, TDS and Temperature and up to six parameters simultaneously. LAQUA’s large capacitance touch screen panel can display easy to understand real time graph, digital or analogue values. The meter can be calibrated in five points, and has automatic standard solution recognition function for NIST/USA buffer as well as a customisable standard setting, it also complies with Pharmacopoeias standard.
Up to 2,000 data sets can be stored on the device’s internal memory. Data can be saved on to an external memory stick or transferred to a computer via RS-232 or USB connections, and HORIBA provides free of charge data acquisition software. Fully GLP/GMP compliant, the LAQUA can be connected to an external printer. To ensure traceability, data is linked to sample name and user ID as well as calibration information. User account can be created and can be protected with a pin code. The Auto diagnostic function and the electronic user guide with colour pictures are useful feature that allow high performance and reliable measurements at any time.

New Version of GC/MS Method Package for Residual Pesticides in Foods
To address the increasing demand to reliably check for critical amounts of residual pesticides in foods, feed additives and veterinary drugs Shimadzu (Germany) is releasing the company’s GC/MS Method Package Ver. 2 for Residual Pesticides in Foods.
The new analysis package has been developed to improve the speed and efficiency of using GC/MS technology to analyse as many as 800 different residual pesticides by providing simpler inspection methods and batch analysis of multiple component samples. The method package covers almost all pesticides that can be analysed by GC/MS technologies.
Shimadzu’s GC/MS Method Package Ver. 2 for Residual Pesticides in Foods has been exclusively tailored for use with Shimadzu’s GCMS-QP2010 series of instruments which include the high performance GCMS-QP2010 Ultra that is capable of rapidly pumping down to enable qualitative analysis within 10 to 15 minutes while achieving fast scan times of 20,000 amu/sec.
The new method package, which supports GCMS Solution Ver. 2.60, features a CD-ROM that contains method files which have been pre-registered with optimised analytical conditions, compound information, including retention indices, report format files, tuning files and an identification support tool. The package also includes an instruction manual and glass inserts (pack of 5).
The GC/MS identification support tool helps to overcome the influence of contamination of matrices in actual sample analysis or erroneous identification caused by retention time shift. The tool, which enables identification results to be displayed in order from components having the highest potential to exist, runs linked with GCMS Solution, enabling identification results to be carefully studied while viewing the chromatogram. Because the retention indices of all compounds are pre-registered, GCMS Solution's AART (Automatic Adjustment of Retention Time) function allows retention times to be easily corrected for easier and smoother analysis.

A New Class of Hand-Held Multi-Ion Analyser that Can Simultaneously Measure Multiple Ions in Liquids
Aptisens (Ireland) is offering a new class of hand-held multi-ion analyser that can simultaneously measure multiple ions in liquids, including Ca2+, Cl-, K+, Na+, NO3-, NH4+, and Mg2+. All sensors can be calibrated simultaneously and up to 6 ions can be measured at once.
By leveraging the amasing properties of carbon nanotubes, these sensors have unique advantages over the standard ISEs on the market, such as being completely solid state, requiring very little maintenance and are very easy to use. It allows Aptisens to deliver products that open the field of multiple ion measurement to non-experts and drastically reduces the time it takes to measure multiple ions in a sample.
The robust portable multi-ion kit is perfect for environmental analysis and comes with everything you may need for both laboratory and field based ion measurement. Included in the kit are application specific calibration sets, for the simultaneous calibration of six sensors for diverse usage, e.g. horticulture/agriculture, soil and solution nutrient values, seawater and reverse osmosis applications, and environmental analysis. The solutions can be tailored made to suit your needs.

AccuStandard (USA) offers a comprehensive listing of explosive standards traditionally used for the remediation of soil and water in locations where explosives have been stored. These standards are also used to calibrate baggage screening detectors at airports and other secure locations (embassies and other government buildings) and the training of animals to sniff out dangerous compounds by police departments and the military.
Among the 57 single analyte compounds offered as dilute solutions are TATP, TEGDN, HMTD and PETN. Mixtures designed for US EPA Methods 8330, 8095 and 529, German DIN 38407-21 are also available.
New standards include Erythritol tetranitrate (ETN) and Hexahydro-1,3-trinitroso-1,3,5-triazine, Hexamethylene diperoxide diamine (HMDD) and Gun Surveillance standards (inorganic and organic).
AccuStandard is accredited to ISO Guide 34, ISO/IEC 17025 and certified to ISO 9001. Reader Reply Card No. 197 IET May / June 2012
