Water Resistant Surface Temperature Sensor

OMEGA (UK) New range of Pt100 surface temperature sensors, feature a water resistant flexible silicon patch and moulded lead wire.

The patch has a strong silicon adhesive backing for easy and secure mounting on flat or curved surfaces. The aluminium strip also ensures a fast temperature response. Simply peel off the backing and stick to a clean, dry surface. One hour after application the sensor and adhesive will resist moisture to IP67 standards, making it suitable for many outdoor or wet environments.

For use in temperature ranges from -30 to 150°C with a 4 wire construction and precision 100Ωclass A platinum element.

The roll-out of BOC’s (UK) Cylinder Tracking System, which will electronically record and track the location, movement and content of every BOC cylinder in the UK and Ireland, was inaugurated at a ceremony in Aberdeen today (25 April). Nathan Palmer, BOC’s Director of Bulk and Packaged Gases, presented a certificate to Garry Stephen, Managing Director of Aberdeen-based Oil States Industries (UK), the recipients of the first officially-tracked industrial gas cylinder in the country. Oil States Industries provides engineering services to the oil and gas industry worldwide.

The ceremony also marked the completion of a three-year project by BOC to develop a system robust enough to track its inventory of several million cylinders in the UK, while flexible enough to deal with the different ways in which customers buy products and services from the company, a member of the international Linde Group.

“Up to the minute accurate information about inventory is vitally important in today’s fast moving business environment,” noted Nathan Palmer. “BOC supplies every sector of the UK economy and we have many customers for whom our products are business-critical. So we have developed this system as an additional service to help all our customers manage their stock holdings more easily and efficiently.”

The processing industry is going through significant changes and is affected by several industry trends. Instrumentation and calibration technicians are required to carry more and more measurement equipment on the field, there is demand for increasingly accurate and stable measurements due to more accurate transmitter technology and there is an increased demand for measurement equipment that automates procedures and guides the user on the field. Furthermore, plants are looking to decrease measurement equipment lifecycle costs by replacing several individual measurement devices with multifunctional devices.

The new MC6 Advanced Field Calibrator and Communicator from Beamex (UK) is a solution to the new process industry requirements. The MC6 is an advanced, high-accuracy field calibrator and communicator. It offers calibration capabilities for pressure, temperature and various electrical signals. The MC6 also contains a full fieldbus communicator for HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus and Profibus PA instruments. The usability and ease-of-use are what really makes the MC6 unique. It has a large 5.7” color touch-screen with a multilingual user-interface. The robust IP65-rated dust- and water-proof casing, ergonomic design and light weight make it an ideal measurement device for field use in various industries.

The MC6 is one device with five different operational modes, which means that it is fast and easy to use. The operation modes include Meter, Calibrator, Documenting Calibrator, Data Logger and Fieldbus Communicator. In addition, the MC6 communicates with Beamex CMX Calibration Software, enabling fully automated and paperless calibration and documentation.

Subsea equipment rental company Ashtead Technology has made a substantial investment in order to operate established equipment calibration facilities in all its office locations. In addition to the standard range of product calibration services, the Singapore and Aberdeen branches offer the ability to calibrate depth, temperature, conductivity and sound velocity equipment to manufacturer’s standards. These calibration facilities have been audited and approved by Valeport Ltd: manufacturer of Oceanographic Instrumentation to the survey industry.

Ashtead engineers have undergone comprehensive specialist calibration training at leading manufacturers Valeport, Ocean Scientific and Tritech. The labs have been developed in close collaboration with these manufacturers to ensure the same high level of calibration standards will be obtained.

As part of Ashtead Technology’s new Integrated Technical Services initiative these calibration facilities are being made available to the customer base, providing a quality approved, local, and fast calibration facility for CTDs and SV probes. The benefit of these Labs is that it will allow cost savings to be passed onto the customer, by significantly reducing the amount of money spent on external calibrations. It will also ensure higher availability of equipment, by reducing the period of time taken to calibrate equipment through the removal of shipping time to/from the manufacturer.

New Handheld XRF Analyser

Analytical Technology's (ATi, UK) versatile Q45P Auto-Clean pH monitor was awarded an MCERTS product conformity certificate in November 2008. The certification of the Q45P helps provide customers with confidence in the system’s emission monitoring capabilities for the protection of the environment and human health.

The integrated Auto-Clean system extends sensor cleaning intervals on pH sensors that are mounted in applications containing high levels of solids contamination. Generating high pressure air blasts, the Auto-Clean system automatically removes contaminants from the face of the sensors. Each cleaning cycle lasts approximately two minutes, during which the monitor outputs are placed in a ‘hold’ condition to prevent false readings or alarms. The concentration of solids determines the cleaning frequency of the system, which can vary from as often as once every two hours to as little as once a day on an application basis.

Paul Wiggins of the Environment Agency adds: “The EA is pleased to see the addition of another instrumentation company to the MCERTS scheme. The certification of the ATi pH monitor offers end users a choice for their pH monitoring.”

Prestigious MCERTS Certification for Auto- Clean pH Monitor

Oxford Instruments (UK) is proud to launch a new member of its handheld XRF analyser X-MET7000 series, the X-MET7500. The X-MET7500 delivers fast and accurate analysis of the widest variety of materials, including trace elements and light elements (from magnesium) analysis, without the need for helium purge or vacuum pump.

It is used as a screening tool for metal industries: Positive Material Identification, Metal recycling; Scrap sorting, Gold and Precious Metals verification, including tramp elements in jewellery, Mining processes, Environmental screening, Lead and other hazardous substances in paint, toys and other consumer goods, RoHS / WEEE / ELV compliance screening, Treated wood recycling and Drywall analysis.

The X-MET7000 series offers an improved, intuitive and easy-to- read graphical user interface. The bright and high contrast 4.3” Blanview® transmissive LCD touch screen ensures optimal outdoor viewing, even in direct sunlight. Its ease of use guarantees maximum productivity. Both handheld XRF analysers come with a new enhanced data download reporting flexibility. The result screen and reports can be easily customised, e.g. to show only pass/fail messages. The rugged, yet light and compact design of the X-METs withstands the harshest environments and weather conditions.
