Wireless Communication in any Gas Detection System


The RXT Wireless Configuration Tool from Detcon (USA) is a custom tablet-style device designed to configure Detcon's RXT-300 and RXT-320 SmartWireless® transceivers. In turn, these transceivers make wireless communication possible between controllers, sensors, and alarm stations in any gas detection system. Lightweight yet powerful, the configuration tool is used to synchronise and change wireless channels on any RXT transceiver and to configure RXT-300 wireless networks. The custom tablet has a 10.1" touch panel widescreen LCD for display and user input. The configuration tool interfaces with a USB wireless radio equivalent to that installed in the RXT transceivers for easy communication and accurate configuration. The device is powered by 100-240VAC with supplied AC adaptor or can operate off an internal rechargeable battery for up to 8 hours on a single charge. Other SmartWireless products include a low-power Model DM-100 gas detection sensor assembly (compact version available), XP-rated solar panels, HMI panel (compact version available), Smart Battery packs and wireless alarms stations.


Reader Reply Card No. Infrared Fixed Gas Detector Receives IP67 Certification


Oldham (France) is pleased to announce that its OLCT IR infrared fixed gas detector has been tested according to IEC/EN 60529, and has been awarded the IP67 protection degrees. The tests were conducted by INERIS, one of the two IECEx Certification bodies in France. The design protects the OLCT IR against dust and the effect of immersion in up to one meter of water.


Reinforced ingress protection, stainless steel SS 316L enclosure, dual source, four- beam technology, and heated optics make the OLCT IR one of the most reliable infrared gas detectors available. It is suitable for use in harsh environments such as offshore oil and gas platforms, refineries, LNG/LPG plants, gas terminals, FPSO vessels, gas compressor stations, and gas turbine power plants. A low temperature version allows operation down to -50°C for the harshest industrial environment.


The OLCT IR also holds SIL2 certification according to EN 50402 and IEC/EN 61508.


The Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and the Probability of Failures on Demand (PDF), both calculated by INERIS, are respectively 28 years and 1,6 10-3 with a one-year interval test.


The OLCT IR carries ATEX, IECEx, IN METRO, NEPSI, GOST R and GOST K approvals, and a five-year warranty. Reader Reply Card No. 83 82


Perfect Interaction for Maximum Safety


The new G400- MP2 pump from GfG (Germany) communicates with the gas detectors G450/G460. This interaction allows fault indication via the detector display. Low battery, blocked sampling line or interrupted power fault modes are shown on the display and activate different visual and audible warnings.


Gas samples can be taken from distances of up to 100 m with considerable low-pressure performance; the safe solution for confined space measurement.


The G400-MP2 is the only attachable pump available which may remain fixed to the detector. When the pump is turned on, the diffusion inlets are covered and the measurement results are not affected by air flows.


An additional filter system in the sampling line protects pump and sensors from dust and moisture. When the pump is turned off, the gas detector can be operated as usual. The diffusion inlets now allow all gases to enter the sensor chamber.


The G400-MP2 is operated on its own power supply, independently from the gas detector; i.e. the pump does not affect the operational time of the G450/G460. The pump power supply allows at least 10 hours of continuous operation.

Queen’s Award for Enterprise Winner
