Date Announced for the Water Industry’s Business Platform in China
Water Expo China + Water Membrane China, China’s first water business exhibition, will take place 29 – 31 October 2012 at the China National Convention Center, Beijing, China.
The three-day show is organised by Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd, the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society (CHES) and the Membrane Industry Association of China (MIAC). The event is approved by China’s Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Science and Technology, and sponsored by the Ministry of Water Resources.
In addition, Water Expo China + Water Membrane China is supported by a number of eminent government ministries and organisations: Ministry of Land and Resources, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Office of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project Commission of the State Council, State Oceanic Administration, State Forestry Administration, Department of High-tech Industry of National Development and Reform Commission, Department of High and New-tech of Ministry of the Science and Technology, Department of Raw Materials of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Academy of Sciences, China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, China
Association of Environmental Protection Industry, and the National Society of Seawater Desalination and Water Reuse.
Commenting on the 2012 show, Mr Jason Cao, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd said: “Last year’s show set new records in terms of exhibition space and exhibitor and visitor numbers. We had four halls covering 22,000 sqm, 328 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions and more than 18,000 visitors from 34 countries and regions. Already for our 2012 show, we are inviting around 30,000 trade visitors to visit our 450 exhibitors. These visitors will include central government officials and important dignitaries such as Department of Water Resources Management of Ministry of Water Resources, Bureau of Comprehensive Development of Ministry of Water Resources, Center for Rural Drinking Water Safety and 800 officials from over 20 provinces. Other visitors will include representatives from design institutes, research and scientific institutes, colleges, universities and industrial fields, project consultants, developers, contractors, water related dealers and agents as well associations, societies, chambers of commerce and the media.”
Mr Li ZanTang, Secretary General of CHES remarked: “There is no doubt that Water Expo China + Water Membrane China is benefitting from the annual RMB 400 billion government spending on water resources as outlined in the Number One document, which has for the first time focussed major attention on water conservation. This spending is offering a multitude of opportunities for companies involved in the water industry. At our show exhibitors can meet with Chinese government decision makers at a national and provincial level, in a professional setting to explore opportunities.”
Representing Water Membrane China, Mr You Jinde, Secretary General of MIAC added: “We are expecting more exhibitors from our association to take part in the 2012 show because it is the only government endorsed exhibition that is helping China’s water industry to meet the objectives as outlined in the 12th Five-Year Plan. It’s an event where exhibitors can meet key government decision makers, collect valuable market information, network with industry peers, and meet and connect with new agents and distributors and existing business associates.”

Double Award Win at Pittcon 2012
The new GC-MS platform from Bruker Chemical and Applied Markets (USA) Division – SCION TQ – picked up two prestigious awards at last month’s Pittcon in Orlando, Florida.
First up was the presentation of the 4th Annual Reader’s Choice Award for Gas Chromatography Products, sponsored by Laboratory Equipment Magazine.
Hot on the heels of this success, came the news that SCION TQ was the recipient of the 2012 Pittcon Editors’ Choice Silver Award, given for the best new products at the 2012 Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy. Established in 1996, these independent awards, which represent the results of a poll of leading editors, have become an important feature of the world’s largest trade show for the laboratory equipment industry.
Dr. Rohan Thakur, Vice President of Bruker’s Chemical and Applied Markets (CAM) Division commented: “It is very gratifying to get this positive market response. In addition to the commercial success we are already seeing, this recognition from both laboratory professionals and the industry tells me that we are on the right path in our product development. The SCION TQ and SCION SQ were developed with the gas chromatographer in mind – we wanted to enable users to reach lower detection limits, achieve better precision and higher productivity by removing the complexity and fragility of other instrument designs.”
The SCION TQ and SCION SQ represent the first new-generation GC-MS products following Bruker’s acquisition in 2010 of the Varian Lab GC, GC-MS quadrupole, and ICP-MS products. Design innovations such as Axial-Flow ion source, heated auto-focusing q0 ion optics, and EDR off-axis detector ensure the lowest possible detection limits and longest operation times. The ultra-fast 180° curved collision cell of SCION TQ delivers a space-saving design, which reduces instrument foot-print, thereby allowing laboratories to adopt triple quadrupole technology without sacrificing precious bench space.
