ii UK Focus - Water/Wastewater Range of MCERTS Automatic Samplers

Environmental Monitoring Solutions (UK) supply a range of MCERTS automatic samplers from leading manufacturer Isco. These include the popular 4700 model fixed site sampler supplied at very competitive prices.

The Isco 4700 is specially constructed for harsh outdoor environments. It has user friendly controls, a unique slide-out sampling draw and is constructed in a modular way for easy maintenance. The Isco 4700 collects sequential or composite samples based on time or flowrate. Multiple samples can be placed in individual bottles or samples can be placed into multiple bottles. The controller actively regulates and displays the sample compartment temperature, which is user selectable. A range of 12 bottle configurations are available.

Accurate Repeatable Sample Volumes: The Liquid Presence Detector compensates for head height change and automatic suction line rinsing eliminates cross contamination of samples. The detector is non-contacting, and unaffected by conductivity, viscosity, temperature, or liquid composition.

Control, Programming and Refrigeration: Menu-driven control and programming are fast and simple

for easy on-site operation. The slide-out bottle rack eliminates awkward stooping and bending to reach sample containers. The controller actively regulates and displays the sample compartment temperature, and logs a 24-hour summary to confirm

proper sample cooling. Sample temperature is user-selectable.

Rugged and Simple Design: The tough, double-wall LLDPE cabinet shrugs off exposure to weather and harsh environments. It is filled from top to bottom with insulation for efficient, economical cooling on hot days. A heat-treated polyester powder coating protects the refrigeration system, ensuring long life and reliability in corrosive treatment plant conditions. The Isco 4700 is designed in a modular fashion to allow easy maintenance of major components.

Aquamatic Limited (UK), manufacturer of automatic wastewater samplers, has supplied Tulip Limited with a new MCERTS Certified Aquacell S100 auto-sampler for use at its new multi million pound state-of-the-art sausage production facility in Bromborough, England.

Tulip Limited approached Aquamatic for the supply of an automatic wastewater sampler which would allow them to accurately and continuously collect and store samples volumes from their on-site effluent treatment plant, prior to laboratory analysis. These samples would then be assessed to ensure compliance with Tulips environmental discharge consent.

Chris Davies, Tulip Limited Site Services Manager, commented “As a company Tulip takes its environmental responsibilities extremely seriously, and effective wastewater treatment is a critical process at the factory. Reliability, value, ease of use, after-sales backup, and compliance with the Environment Agency MCERTS standard were all factors considered when choosing an Aquamatic auto-sampler for our flagship site.”

In addition to the supply of the Aquacell S100 sampler, Aquamatic also provide Tulip Ltd with an on-site maintenance contract to ensure hassle-free operation for years to come.

MCERTS Audits For Plants Discharging Wastewater

Emerson’s METCO Services can now provide MCERTS audits for plants discharging wastewater

Emerson Process Management’s METCO Services organisation has extended its flow management expertise into the wastewater industry. METCO will now provide independent audits to both the Water Utilities and Industrial Dischargers that have been granted legal consents and permits to discharge by the Environment Agency.

Independent audits are a requirement of the MCERTS scheme in order that dischargers can demonstrate “Self Monitoring of Effluent Flow”. The audits will examine the site process configuration, measuring equipment (and how it is installed), and the quality system that manages it. The output of the audit will be a report detailing whether or not the site meets the required standard. This report will then form the basis of formally issuing a MCERTS “Site Conformity Inspection Certificate” for compliance.

Aberdeen-based METCO is Emerson’s specialist measurement services organisation, providing audit and consultancy services, field technicians and office based engineers to help companies in the water and oil & gas industries manage their fiscal, allocation and environmental measurement infrastructure.

METCO Services has been providing metering services to the global oil and gas industry for over 30 years. Services include metering management contracts, flow measurement services and consultancy and training. Emerson is now building on the considerable flow management expertise of METCO Services to assist customer sites discharging wastewater.

“We have grown our business on providing measurement services to the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry,” said Gordon Fish, Managing Director of METCO Services. “ The management of fiscal measurement systems is very demanding and places us in an ideal position to be able to provide similar services to other industries and applications.”

“The MCERTS audit group is complementary to Emerson’s existing flow measurement auditing business,” said Paul Cherry, Flow Specialist, METCO Services. “The added capability to carry out MCERTS audits, using qualified inspectors, places METCO in a strong position to continue to provide and grow its overall auditing and inspection capability.”

The MCERTS audit group offers independent advice and will recommend the best technical and cost efficient solution. Emerson’s remedial team will then provide a vendor neutral recommendation for any work required to bring the installation up to the MCERTS standard.
