Fast GPC/SEC for Molar Mass Distribution in Production and Plant Environments

GPC-QC by Polymer Char is a compact high- temperature GPC/SEC instrument for quality control and process control in polyolefin manufacturing lines that provides robust and precise Molar Mass Distribution. It delivers the complete Molar Mass Distribution for one sample at-a-time through a simplified workflow,

while completely automating the entire process. Both sample preparation and analysis are free of manual solvent handling and completed in 30 minutes, including the dissolution time. The detection used in the instrument can be either Polymer Char’s IR4 or IR5 MCT integrated detectors. These are highly reliable detectors that also deliver chemical composition information, which is key for controlling the production of heterogeneous resins. This is particularly relevant in the case of copolymers, which account for a large proportion of polyolefins produced, such as LLDPE, some HDPE, and the important group of EP copolymers as well.

The information generated by the IR detector can be translated to either co-monomer weight fraction or to density units for a given product range. Moreover, for a truly complete analysis, the instrument can measure intrinsic viscosity by means of a built-in

dual capillary viscometer that can be optionally incorporated. For More Info, email:

handling of solvent at high temperature. CRYSTEX®

Polymer Char’s CRYSTEX® QC is a fully-automated system for obtaining the soluble fraction in polypropylene and copolymers through the separation capability of TREF. Its approach stands as a modern alternative to the traditional wet chemistry method based on xylene solubility, which is known for being very time-consuming and for requiring constant manual QC is

very simple to operate and overcomes all the difficulties related to the traditional method by automating the process entirely and reducing the time of analysis down to 2 hours including dissolution.

Accurate and precise quantification is achieved by means of an infrared detector (IR4), that also measures Ethylene Content for the whole sample, the soluble fraction, and the crystalline fraction. Intrinsic Viscosity is also measured for the whole sample and the soluble and insoluble fractions by means of a built-in dual capillary viscometer, without adding analysis time.

Fully Automated Intrinsic Viscosity Analyser for Determination of viscosity in Polymeric Materials

Polymer Char’s IVA – Intrinsic Viscosity Analyser- is a fully automated instrument for measuring the intrinsic viscosity in a wide range of polymeric materials from ambient temperature up to 200o

C.

The whole process is performed without user intervention or handling any solvents including filling of vials and dissolution of the samples, thanks to an autosampler with capacity of up to 42 samples. At the core of the IVA, a robust two-capillary viscometer collects relative viscosity data from which intrinsic viscosity is derived. The stainless steel capillaries design is self-cleaning and self-calibrating, ensuring reliable and reproducible data. Furthermore, the instrument adds a safety level to the process thanks to its full automation, thus, IVA becomes a practical and convenient alternative to the manual or semi-automated methods.

IVA is compatible with the typically used organic solvents such as decalin, tetralin, tri-chlorobenzene (TCB) and orthodichlorobenzene, among many others. Dissolution temperature and analysis temperature can be programmed independently from ambient to 200o most crystalline ones, can be analysed with convenience and safety.

The analysis of polyolefins and other polymers containing significant C-H content can be further expanded by the incorporation of the optional Infrared detector IR4 to accurately quantify the injected polymer mass, which results in improved precision and accuracy of viscosity results.
