Analytical Instrumentation ERASPEC OIL Gains Automatic Reference Measurement
Lubrication is vital for machinery operation. Early detection of lube oil degradation is essential for timely replacement to avoid engine wear. It helps to avoid unnecessary maintenance while reducing the risk of breakdowns. ERASPEC OIL uses the economic infrared (IR) analysis test method to deliver specifi c information about the chemical condition of the lubricating oil.
For IR measurements always two measurements are needed: One for the reference and one for the actual sample. In many cases this reference measurement is performed without a sample cell in the beam path of the spectrometer against air.
For a fully integrated measurement system like ERASPEC OIL removing the measurement cell manually is no option. Therefore, in such system usually the background measurement is done using a solvent that fi lls up the measurement cell. The need of such a chemical means additional operating costs and can be a challenge in the supply chain for remote locations such as mines.
With our latest upgrade ERASPEC OIL does not need a solvent for the background measurement anymore. Instead we integrated a movable reference cell that is used for the background measurement. This offers the big advantage that the reference measurement can now be performed automatically whenever needed. The instrument decides by itself when a new reference measurement is needed and can be used directly whenever the operator needs it.
The parameters monitored include contaminants like soot, fuel, antifreeze agents and water. ERASPEC OIL also monitors degradation parameters like oxidation, sulfation and nitration of the lubricant. The depletion of antiwear and antioxidant additives is monitored as well and can calculate the percentage of remaining additives if the fresh oil is known to the analyser. Using databases in the background ERASPEC OIL can also calculate complex parameters such as TAN, TBN and viscosity from the measured spectrum.
Each parameter can be plotted directly on the large color touch screen against operating hours of an engine or driven kilometers of a vehicle. Visually tracking the change of a parameter often gives more insights than only looking at the pure numbers, helping the operator to take a decision on the quality of the lubricant in a timely manner.
The combination of our on-screen trending graphs and the automated reference measurement make ERASPEC OIL a straight forward instrument to be used by untrained personal. Additionally, alarm messages alert the user if one or more parameters are out of predefi ned limits within two minutes after the measurement is started.
Summing up oil condition monitoring got another notch easier and more feasible for remote locations with ERASPEC OIL. It allows to detect issues with the lubricant before wear sets in causing expensive machinery downtimes directly on site. No more waiting for measurement results to come back from centralised used oil labs.

ERAFLASH S10TM New Cooling Lid Extends its Applicability
email: For More Info, email: email:
By defi nition, the fl ash point of a substance is the temperature, at which the vapours of it can be ignited by an external ignition source. The more volatile a substance is the lower its fl ash point will be. The lower the fl ash point is the more dangerous a certain chemical is. This infl uences the way how the chemical must be transported and declared.
More volatile substances tend to evaporate faster that less volatile substances which specifi cally tends to be a problem for substance mixtures. If such samples are stored incorrectly the volatile parts will escape and the fl ash point will increase. If, due to such circumstances, the declared fl ash point is too high this will lead to substantial fi nancial penalties as soon as it is uncovered by transportation authorities.
Samples that fl ash around ambient temperature or below are especially prone to such errors in sample handling and measurement. Such samples also pose special challenges for instruments with auto samplers such as the ERAFLASH S10. Covering the samples with a lid already reduces the evaporation effect dramatically.
Obviously, cooling this lid will further slowdown the evaporation process ensuring unaltered samples from charging the auto sampler to the actual measurement. ERAFLASH
S10 can now be equipped with such a water-cooled lid that keeps the sample cups cold prior to the measurement. Internal tests have proven that this cooling lid allows to accurately measure samples (fl ash point around 4°C due to contamination with a highly volatile substance) after being stored on the auto sampler’s carousel for 1.5 hours.
In combination with its unrivaled temperature range of -25 to 420 °C (-13 to 788 °F) ERAFLASH S10 cannot only be used for fuel specifi cation purposes. It is also an extremely cost-effi cient tool from the fl avors and fragrances industry all the way to big used oil testing facilities. All industries profi t from the small sample volume of only 2ml and the patented Peltier Boost Technology (PBT)TM allowing for unmatched heating and cooling rates. This gives you the shortest turnaround times on the market.

Pure SamplingTM and TVP Method of ERAVAP
The rising concentration of oxygenates in modern fuels around the world is a challenge for all VP testers. Test results from various manufacturers presented by the ASTM D02 group showed that testing fuels with high Ethanol content directly after a QC measurement with Pentane can affect vapour pressure measurement results. The reason for this effect is the risk of cross contamination, as Pentane does not dissolve well in e.g. Ethanol.
email: For More Info, email: email:
Eralytics uses its unique patented Pure Sampling™ valve technology to minimize this risk of cross contamination. Even considering the worst case of measuring pure ethanol directly followed by a QC measurement with Pentane, vapour pressure measurement results still fall into the allowed results range for Pentane defi ned in ASTM D5191 or ASTM D6378 if measured with ERAVAP.
Another parameter gaining more and more importance is the True Vapour Pressure (TVP) of crude oil at a V/L ratio of 0. TVP is a very important safety parameter as it represents the highest possible pressure that can build up inside a tank or rail car at a given temperature. It is extrapolated from at least three different V/L ratio measurements as a measurement at V/L=0 isn’t possible. This essential parameter is now available in all ERAVAPs equipped for crude oil measurements.

ERAVAP ONLINE – Process Vapour Pressure Testing
ERAVAP ONLINE is the counterpart to eralytics’ laboratory vapor pressure tester ERAVAP. Its core is based on the very same measurement cell as the laboratory instrument uses with additional measures to further increase the already excellent durability of the lab instrument. This alikeness of the two measurement cells leads to identical results on both instruments rendering error-prone correlations unnecessary.
ERAVAP ONLINE handles up to three sample streams and one quality control stream. The measurement results are output over MODBUS or four analog lines (4-20mA). Four confi gurable digital inputs and four outputs can be
used for further communication if needed. With its versatile communication confi gurability ERAVAP ONLINE can be easily integrated into every thinkable control environment.
The second key aspect for process analysers is safety and especially explosion prevention. We, therefore, designed ERAVAP ONLINE not only to be made-to-fi t your process but also to be completely safe. ERAVAP ONLINE is certifi ed according to UL Class 1 Zone 1, ATEX and IECEx.
ERAVAP ONLINE is delivered with a set of two measurement cells which store all important calibration parameters directly. Therefore the recalibration procedure interrupts the measurement sequence for only a minute – the time needed to exchange the two cells. Afterwards the spare cell is recalibrated off-site.
With available test methods for crude oil (ASTM D6377), gasoline (ASTM D6378) and LPG (ASTM D6897) the ex-proof ERAVAP ONLINE analyser is the ideal solution for a wide variety of different applications in your process environment. Whether it is quality control or fuel blending ERAVAP ONLINE is your analyser of choice.
