Analytical Instrumentation

New Software Offers Improved Performance and New Features That Enhance Onsite Oil Analysis Capabilities

Spectro Scientific, suppliers of oil, fuel and processed water analysis instrumentation and software for fleet applications, has announced the release of MicroLab®

Version 11 Software and the introduction of new MicroLab Companion Kits.

The MicroLab automated analyser series provides complete oil analysis testing including chemistry, kinematic viscosity and concentration of up to 20 wear, additive and contamination elements, in addition to an optional particle counter. Version 11 software brings improved performance through new signal processing methods and features that provide additional capabilities and flexibility. The upgraded user interface

permits input of external data to produce consolidated fluid analysis reports that include several parameters for oil and equipment condition not previously available in the MicroLab test suite. The software update presents a new, easy to read report format which includes additional historical trending data.

The MicroLab Series also now features the MicroLab 31, MicroLab 42 and MicroLab 43 Companion Kits. The Kits combine Spectro’s FDM 6001 fuel dilution meter, FerroCheck 2000 ferrous wear analyzer and CoolCheck 2 coolant analyser with the MicroLab 30 and 40 analysers to offer users complete fluid analysis testing packages to meet their maintenance needs.

The ability to perform oil analysis on location eliminates the ongoing expense of outside testing services and dramatically reduces waiting time for test results. The MicroLab combines automation and artificial intelligence to provide comprehensive results in less than 15 minutes. Detailed oil and machine condition information enables companies to take necessary maintenance actions immediately, minimising unscheduled downtime and lowering fleet maintenance costs. Reliable onsite oil analysis also permits users to safely extend the time between oil changes, reducing oil expenditures and helping to achieve “green” initiatives relative to oil disposal.

“This next phase of the MicroLab development reinforces Spectro’s commitment to bring the best of our technologies and expertise to our customers for on-site oil analysis”, said Spectro President and CEO Brian Mitchell. “Our fleet customers will benefit from enhanced performance and capability for better decision making within their maintenance programs”.

High-throughput System for Simultaneous Measurement of the Soluble Fraction, Ethylene Content and Intrinsic Viscosity

Polymer Char’s CRYSTEX® 42 is a large-capacity and fully-automated approach for obtaining the soluble fraction in homogeneous (pelletized) polypropylene and copolymers. This instrument stands as a modern alternative to the traditional wet chemistry method based on xylene solubility.

CRYSTEX® 42 is based on the

TREF separation concept in which the sample is loaded into a TREF column for measuring

the soluble and crystalline fractions of the polymer. The dissolution process becomes part of the automated analysis workflow, so unattended analysis of a large set of samples can be performed in a two-hour period. CRYSTEX®

42 represents significant savings on manpower, solvent and time, but it increases health and safety levels in the laboratory.

Results are very precise due to automation and the integration of an infrared detector (IR4), which precisely measures the amount of sample analysed as well as the ethylene content. For a truly complete analysis, the instrument also measures intrinsic viscosity by means of a built-in dual capillary viscometer. All these results are obtained simultaneously for the whole sample, the soluble fraction and the crystalline fraction.

Moisture Meter Released KF Moisture Meter CA-310 from Mitsubishi Chemical Analytech is a new model change to CA-200/KF-200, which has been supported by numerous users over many years. The instrument offers enhanced performance, scalability and operability and is

equipped with an 8.4 inch colour LCD touch panel.

KF Moisture Meters is a distinct wet chemistry analysis method. With increasing regulatory efforts, the number of laboratories implementing GMP/GLP compliance or similar quality assurance is growing. Many current solutions require the use of a PC to operate the analyser to assure data integrity and traceability. With its newly designed Multi Controller, Mitsubishi Chemical Analytech provides its model CA-310 with data integrity features for an audit trail at the point of data generation.

Whilst all the data is handled securely and stored locally, it is still available on the network for further processing. With its modular concept, the CA-310 is able to be scaled from one to four titration channels, all of which can further be equipped with auto sample changer or other vaporisers.

CA-310 is equipped with a high level of automation, from automatic start up to shut down including connected accessories, cell dehydration, vaporiser heating, carrier gas valve switching, gas flow control. CA-310 recognises the exchange timing of reagent by automatic EVAC unit, which can realise full automation together with auto sample changer VA-236S.

Mitsubishi Chemical Analytech is a unique company which is supplies both Moisture Meters and reagents. For many years, Mitsubishi Chemical Aquamicron reagents have provided a number of application databases for choosing the best reagent and instrument settings. Peak performance has now been reached with the integration of Aquamicron reagents into the CA-310 system, thus enabling barcode input of reagent data, such as, shelf life, LOT number or certified values directly and without errors. Together with reagent lifetime control and automatic exchange, it allows keeping the highest level of measurement performance over a long period of time.
