Arablab: an Event Where Business Happens
Golden Eagle Area Development Project
Yokogawa UK Ltd. has been awarded a contract for the supply of an Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) for the Golden Eagle Area Development (GEAD) Project operated by Nexen Petroleum (U.K).
The Golden Eagle area, which is home to one of the largest oil and gas discoveries in the UK North Sea in the past ten years, comprises the Golden Eagle and Peregrine fields, and is operated by Nexen with Maersk Oil, Suncor Energy Inc, and Edinburgh Oil and Gas as partners.
This is Yokogawa's first major contract with Nexen Petroleum U.K., and sees Yokogawa further develop its significant installation base in the North Sea, continuing the company's strong commitment to the industry.
The Arablab show closed its door last month on yet another success. The show has been growing from strength to strength year on year. This year’s event attracted 8,965 visitors from over 95 different countries which highlights the fact that Arablab is a truly international event.
Visitors to the show had the opportunity to enter a free prize draw to win an iPad which was sponsored by International Labmate who have exhibited and supported at Arablab for over 10 years.
On the first day Wally A Taal of Maica Laminates won the first day’s prize, he is pictured here with Labmate publisher Michael Pattison, Arablab organiser David Domoney and his colleague Mohd Sallahruddin Hashim.
The ICSS package utilises Yokogawa's flagship CENTUM VP for the process control system and operator environment. The SIL-rated process shutdown systems and main fire & gas detection systems are based on Yokogawa's ProSafe-RS safety system with diverse ProSafe-SLS solid- state safety system technology deployed for the emergency shutdown system.
Other systems included within the ICSS package include the operational data system utilising Yokogawa's Exaquantum historian and asset management using Yokogawa's PRM package.
The ICSS will be installed across the new GEAD complex, comprising the process utilities and living quarters platform and a bridge-linked wellhead platform.

Development and Marketing of Medical Measurement Company Acquired
The technology company Pro Analysis AS (Norway) was established in 1996, specialising in the development and marketing of medical measurement equipment. In 2001, the company embarked on the development of an instrument for continuous monitoring of oil levels in produced water from oil and gas production. The first prototype was tested by Norsk Hydro in 2003. Statoil has, as part of its core operation, a need for this type of measurement equipment, and decided in 2004 to invest in the company through its subsidiary company Statoil Venture AS. Pro Analysis AS has used this period to develop the Argus technology into a reliable and competitive product, and the current technology was launched in 2008. In Norway, Argus has achieved a market share of over 80%. Furthermore, the system has been sold and tested all over the world -from Brazil to the Middle East and Asia -and has received international recognition as a leading technology.
As the development phase is coming to an end, Holta & Håland Industrier AS became interested in the company. Following negotiations, Statoil Venture AS and the other shareholders have entered into an agreement with Holta & Håland Industrier AS and key employees in Pro Analysis AS on the purchase of all shares in the company.
The second day’s winner was Muhammad Raees from SR Traders a Textile Testing Laboratory from Pakistan.
Muhammad is pictured with Marcus Pattison publisher of International Environmental Technology.
The next Arablab event will take place from 10th – 13th March 2013.

At present, Pro Analysis AS has 12 employees. Preliminary figures for 2011 show a turnover of NOK 22.1 mill, of which 70 % outside the Norwegian home market.
Holta & Håland AS was established in 1966, and became an offshore supplier (instrumentation and metering) in the 1970s. These business areas were sold in 2005. Holta & Håland Industrier AS is a holding and development company with interests in a number of sectors -most in which oil companies are the major customers. The group's total budget for the year is over NOK 500 mill.
The acquisition of Pro Analysis AS will strengthen Holta & Håland Industrier AS in terms of monitoring and detection systems for the oil and gas industry in Norway and abroad.

Anton Paar (Austria) a provider of high-precision measuring instruments in the field of density and concentration measurement, determination of
dissolved CO2, rheology and material characterization of surfaces – has acquired the Petrotest Group.
Petrotest and Anton Paar signed the purchase contract on February 28. Petrotest will now be called “Petrotest GmbH, a company of Anton Paar” and continue operations at its headquarters in Dahlewitz, near Berlin. An expansion of the premises is planned. The acquisition of the Petrotest Group represents the largest purchase in the history of Anton Paar. In 1996 Anton Paar acquired Physica Messtechnik GmbH in Stuttgart. This is now managed as Anton Paar Germany GmbH, a 100 % subsidiary.
In 2006 Anton Paar purchased the Graz-based company MSB Morocutti GmbH, which is now integrated into the Anton Paar Group as Anton Paar ShapeTec GmbH. 2007 saw the acquisition of Dr. Wolfgang Kernchen GmbH in Seelze-Letter, Germany, which is now Anton Paar OptoTec GmbH.
The new 100 % subsidiary, the seventeenth in the Anton Paar Group, will be managed by Florian Wierzbicki, the former commercial manager of Petrotest, and Heinz Kindlhofer, Business Development Manager at Anton Paar.
Dr. Friedrich Santner, CEO of Anton Paar GmbH: “Petrotest’s products are an ideal complement to Anton Paar’s product portfolio. The combination of existing technologies from both companies results in a promising synergy effect and allows the development of new measuring instruments. Our strategic aim is clear: by providing a comprehensive range of measuring instruments for laboratories in the oil industry we want to become the preferred partner of our customers in a wider field.”

WWEM 2012 to Feature Gas Detection Zone
The organisers of WWEM 2012, the Water Wastewater & Environmental Monitoring event (Telford, 7/8th November 2012), have announced that this year’s show will again feature a Gas Detection Zone following the popularity of this section at the last WWEM in 2010.
The Council of Gas Detection and Environmental Monitoring (CoGDEM) is helping to organise the gas detection zone which will focus on new technology and products to detect hazards such as exposure to low oxygen levels in confined spaces and to toxic and flammable gases in the workplace. CoGDEM’s Leigh Greenham says “This year there will be more stands featuring gas detection technology as well as hazardous area (Ex) products, in addition to a wider range of free workshops covering topics such as ‘bump-testing versus calibration’, ‘confined space entry’, ‘VOC detection’ and much more.”
New gas detection techniques will be on show and the new ‘CoGDEM Guide to Gas Detection’ hardback book will be launched at the event. Many of the world's leading gas detection experts' products and services will be on display at the WWEM 2012 exhibition, including Air Products, BOC/Linde, Crowcon, Draeger, GMI, GfG, ISC, Infratec, Scientific & Technical Gases and Sira.
WWEM organiser Marcus Pattison is delighted with CoGDEM’s participation. He says: “With so much taking place during the two days, WWEM 2012 will be a hive of frenetic activity, but with free entry, free parking and free lunches and refreshments for pre-registered visitors, we have tried to remove as much of the stress, hassle and cost associated with other events.”
