Measurements in Tuneable Diode Laser Compact Extractive Design
Specifically designed for extractive trace analysis applications, the new SERVOTOUGH LaserExact gas analyser from Servomex (UK) delivers the exceptional benefits of Tuneable Diode Laser (TDL) Technology within a robust and compact analyser design.
Able to detect a wide range of gases including O2, HCl, HF, NH3, CO, CO2, H2O, H2S, HCN, NO, N2O, CH4 and other hydrocarbons, the LaserExact combines an advanced multipass long path length cell with Servomex’s superior High Frequency (HF) Frequency Modulated (FM)
signal processing. The result is unsurpassed low ppb detection limits for most gases, making the LaserExact ideal for the measurement of trace gases offline.
The LaserExact’s advanced TDL technology delivers a fast response time, highly stable performance and minimal interference from background gases. With no moving parts or consumables, the LaserExact minimises operating costs, while the stable, drift-free performance reduces the downtime incurred by the calibration requirements of other analyser technologies.
The LaserExact utilises advanced peak-locking technology, which eliminates drift over extended operational periods by automatically tracking on the measured gas absorption line or - in applications where the measured gas is not normally present - tracking another absorption line.
Designed for easy installation and integration, the LaserExact is immediately ready for operation following the connection of power, sample gas and optional purge gas. With gas concentrations provided as 4-20mA outputs with the option of Ethernet communication, the LaserExact delivers immediate class-leading performance that meets ATEX and Class1 Div2 CSA approvals.
Designed to deliver true continuous in-situ monitoring across short distances, the LaserCompact is optimised for measurement across pipes and along short cells. Able to detect a wide range of gases including O2, HCl, HF, NH3, CO, CO2, H2O, H2S, HCN, NO, N2O, CH4 and other hydrocarbons,
the LaserCompact utilises the latest Tuneable Diode Laser Spectroscopy (TDL) technology to deliver a fast response time of less than 2 seconds, highly stable performance and minimal interference from background gases.
With minimum sample conditioning requirements, zero drift and no moving parts and consumables, the LaserCompact delivers a low cost-of-ownership through minimal maintenance or downtime. As Servomex’s advanced TDL technology delivers measurement through a highly focused laser beam, the LaserCompact is able to measure through very thin nozzles, reducing or even eliminating consumption of purge gas.
Certified to ATEX and IECEx standards, the LaserCompact meets the requirements of new flammable sample regulations in full, allowing safe operation in situations where the process stream itself is flammable and has been classified as a Hazardous Area. Optimised for easy installation on measurement cells or DN50/ANSI flanges, the robust design of the LaserCompact makes it ideal for gas measurements in hot, dirty or dangerous environments that can pose problems for some extractive analyser systems.

The PetroSense range of sensors is now supported by Envirologger (UK), an advanced battery powered datalogger with extensive communications capability, including automatic data transfer to web sites.
The probes can detect minute traces of hydrocarbons in soil or water and the data is transmitted instantaneously to a central server and relayed to the client on a web site, by email, SMS, file transfer protocol or via site manager software.
Applications include process water, wastewater, oil field produced water, separation vessel effluent, storm water run-off, bilge and ballast water, groundwater remediation monitoring, carbon filter bed breakthrough and heat exchanger leak detection.

A team of distillation experts from Kuwait (M/s Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research) as well as i-Fischer’s (Germany) exclusive representatives in the Gulf Area (M/s BDH Middle East LLC) recently visited i-Fischer’s premises in Germany for a Factory Acceptance Test of a fully automated distillation plant in accordance to standard ASTM D-2892. The ASTM-distillation system is a pilot plant which manages charges up to 100 ltr. (flask size 150 ltr.). Due to the large product charges, additional and special safety procedures had to be considered. After several days of comprehensive test runs, the experts came to a joint statement: Project specification and personal expectations were fully met!

New Next Generation Portable Gas Chromatography
Defiant Technologies (USA) has developed a new MEMS based gas chromatography system dubbed the FROG-4000. In about 5 minutes, this new GC-PID micro-system will detect benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, TCE, PCE, and other VOCs in water and soil down to 1 ppb.
FROG-4000 reports the chemical name and concentration on its display screen and stores every chromatogram on a micro-SD card for later use. This game- changing technology enables lab quality results at the field sampling site. FROG-4000 saves money and time. All of this is made possible with cutting edge microfabricated technology that shrinks lab equipment down to battery operated components. FROG-4000 uses ambient air as its carrier gas and can operate 6 to 8 hours on its rechargeable battery.

Determining total hydrocarbon or oil/grease levels to ensure compliance with regulatory permit requirements for discharging produced water is a worldwide problem facing the oil and gas industry. Ensuring compliance with these regulations and avoiding fines for non-compliant discharges requires more frequent wastewater measurements to determine the total hydrocarbon concentration. The portable InfraCal TOG/TPH Analysers manufactured by Wilks Enterprise (USA) have been specifically designed for easy, on- site measurement of the hydrocarbon (oil/grease) concentration level in water in under 15 minutes and are built for years of dependable operation.
InfraCal TOG/TPH Analysers, based on field-proven infrared technology, enable non-technical users to obtain accurate measurements with a few simple steps. Measurement data correlates with EPA Method 1664 and ASTM Method D7066. Currently, there are upwards of 2,500 InfraCal Analysers in worldwide operation – many on oil and gas drilling platforms. Their performance and reliability have made them the industry standard for determining hydrocarbon (oil/grease) concentration levels in water – both on-shore and off-shore. Regular on-site measurements eliminate the wait for off-site laboratory results to ensure wastewater treatment systems are operating properly and effluent discharges are in compliance.
