FluidScan Handheld Lubricant Condition Monitor Introduced

QinetiQ, a global developer of innovative technology solutions, today announced that wholly owned subsidiary, Spectro (USA), is introducing FluidScan, a handheld lubricant condition monitor designed for the on-site analysis of lubricant condition. FluidScan represents the state- of-the-art in infrared technology and can be used to quickly check the condition of hydraulic fluids,

engine oils, turbine oils and gear oils for degradation and the presence of contaminants.

FluidScan analyses fluids using infrared spectroscopy, a technique that has found wide acceptance as a primary test for lubricant degradation and contamination. Since it performs the analyses on-site it provides immediate feedback on critical properties and makes it possible for users to extend oil change intervals, reduce operational and maintenance cost, reduce unscheduled maintenance outages and help to avoid catastrophic equipment failures.

FluidScan measures base number (BN), acid number (AN), oxidation, nitration, sulfation, incorrect lubricant, additive depletion, soot, glycol/antifreeze and water. It uses an innovative, patented flip-top sampling cell and a solid- state spectrometer to make field use possible and delivers a fluid condition assessment based on ASTM Standard Practice E 2412.

Precision Temperature Control at Your Fingertips

Newly Designed Analyser to be Exhibited at Achema Sofraser (France) is pleased to announce participation in the upcoming ACHEMA event in Frankfurt am Main.

Sofraser will exhibit in Hall 11.1, which is dedicated to instrumentation, control, and automation techniques. Sofraser’s stand, F1, will showcase the MIVI resonance frequency process viscometers and its wide range of customisation options, an extensive range of electronic devices, and the newly designed analyser dedicated to viscosity measurement at reference temperature. In addition, portable and new laboratory viscometers as well as specific mounting accessories will be displayed.

On Wednesday, June 20, at 2:30 p.m., Dr. Luc K. Bellière will address the Laboratory and Analytical Techniques congress with High Sensitivity Viscosity Solution for Industrial Applications, a paper describing fluid technology optimisation. As an example, some industries develop products characterised by low viscosity values (10-2 mPa.s) at temperatures down to -40°C. From these different aspects, Dr. Bellière’s insights are expected to be well-received by the audience.

This year’s ACHEMA represents more than an exhibition for Sofraser, as the company celebrates its 40th anniversary. For forty years, Sofraser’s business ventures have been creative, innovative, and technically advanced. In addition to a successful ACHEMA event, Sofraser anticipates a festive celebration with its worldwide partners and future decades of progress and success.

CANNON introduces miniPV®-HX

automatic viscometer

CANNON Instrument Company has introduced the miniPV®

-HX fully

automatic polymer solution viscometer. The instrument design is based on CANNON’s successful miniAV®

with

added functionality for the measurement of polymer solution viscosity. The miniPV®

-HX is compatible

with aggressive acids and solvents commonly used for the dilute solution viscosity determination of polymers. The powerful ViscproII software provides determination of relative viscosity based on accurate flow time measurements to 1/100th second made under conditions of temperature control within 1/100th of a degree. Reduced and inherent viscosity values can also be reported and the intrinsic viscosity can be determined by one of two single-point methods, or the more rigorous Huggins-Kraemer analysis. The software also supports Mark-Houwink-Sakurada parameters and an optional branching factor for reporting polymer molecular weight.

Brookfield Engineering (USA) are pleased to introduce their new TC Series Circulating Water Baths. These baths are uniquely configured for use with Brookfield viscometers and rheometers. The New TC Series features a number of exciting improvements including: touch screen technology, multiple languages and a sleek new design to name just a few.

There are four models are available: TC-150, TC-250, TC-550 & TC-650. All are offered with a choice of digital or programmable controllers and feature Control Heads that now swivel, adjusting to a position that best suits the operator.

The new menu-driven color touchscreen in the ap controller is easy to use, features a “Help” button that provides valuable user tips and information, and operates in any of six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese or Arabic.

The sleek new design features rounded corners, a new color scheme and a composite deck that is both stain and chemical resistant. The new TC Series offers USB, Ethernet and RS-232 connectivity. Operating temperatures range by model from -20° to 200°C.

The new miniPV-HX delivers complete automation including tube filling, cleaning, and drying along with automatic flow time measurement and data logging into a standard database format. The Viscpro II software features provide flexible report formatting and versatile data export functionality. Dr. David Trowbridge, polymer scientist and applications engineer at CANNON Instrument Company, comments that “this new product has made accessible very accurate viscosity measurements with really none of the labor- intensive aspects that have traditionally been associated with these measurements.” The new miniPV-HX is available with an integrated autosampler that allows an entire sequence of samples to be measured without an attending operator.

The minPV-HX has a height of 30.5” and a benchtop footprint of about 40cm (15.5”) square. The modular design also includes a control unit (35cm x 40 cm, 13.5” x 15.5”) and solvent station (8cm x 33 cm, 8” x 13”) which can be stacked to conserve work space.

The miniPV-H single sample version is available for laboratories testing less than 20 samples per day.
