Top Performance Varispenser®

2 and Varispenser®

2x - The New Uncompromising Solution for the Most Demanding Dispensing Applications

Bottletop dispensers are used in any lab where aggressive solutions, such as lyes, acids, bases, and solvents are dispensed from large reagent bottles. Bottletop dispensers are used frequently, requiring them to be universally applicable, reliable, and of uncompromising quality.

As a specialist for Liquid Handling laboratory products, Eppendorf has enhanced the proven quality and technology of the previous models with many details to develop the new Varispenser 2 and Varispenser 2x. Thanks to the positive displacement principle used, loss of sample or media residue is almost completely avoided. A sealing lip made of fluoroplastic PFA attached to the piston wipes the interior wall of the cylinder like a ‘windshield wiper’ during dispensing to prevent deposits from quickly crystallising media which would otherwise require costly and time- consuming cleaning procedures on the device.

New telescopic aspiration tubes can be continuously adjusted to match the various

bottle heights, additional safety balls in the screw-on discharge valves reliably seal the dispensing channel when the dispensing tube is not attached, and the 360° rotatable valve block on the flask enables the dispensing of liquids from various positions without moving the filled bottle. All devices are fully autoclavable, even when attached to a supply bottle.

The components of the Varispenser 2/2x which come into contact with aggressive liquids are made of materials with high chemical resistance (e.g. PTFE, PFA, FEP, borosilicate glass) to most acids, bases, and organic solvents. This, in combination with the dispensing technology described above, enables the use of the Varispenser 2/2x with nearly all common liquids in the lab.

Special accessories provide further application options for bottletop dispensers used for routine lab work. A drying tube which is easy to attach to the rear side of the Varispenser 2/2x and filled with the suitable absorbent allows the dispenser to also be used with moisture-sensitive or CO2

-sensitive media, a filter which can be easily

attached using a ventilation plug is recommended for sterile media and provides improved protection from contamination, and a flexible blow-out tube with a recirculation valve which replaces the dispensing tube is ideal for serial dispensing in for example small micro test tubes in racks . In the White Paper (No. 038), ‘Overcoming challenges in liquid dispensing by using the right accessories for bottletop dispensers’, Eppendorf describes a wide variety of application options for bottletop dispenser accessories. All Varispenser 2/2x devices are equipped with standard GL 45 threads and can be used with almost all kinds of threads used in labs thanks to the additional adapters included in the scope of delivery. The thread adapters are available in PP and ETFE/ PTFE materials, although the ETFE/PTFE adapter is recommended when working with particularly aggressive chemicals. Eppendorf has also provided a White Paper (No. 037) for download with detailed information on this topic.

The design of the Varispenser 2/2x was also improved in comparison with previous models. The new oval-shaped housing is now easier to grip when aspirating and dispensing liquid. The redesigned slider which moves along the toothed bar can be used to precisely and reliably set the volume, and the redesigned valve toggle on the Varispenser 2x highlights the modernity of the devices.
