Next Generation Magnetic Stirrer/Hot Plate

General laboratory equipment specialist Shinetek Instruments brings out its first model of next generation magnetic stirrer/hot plate. As part of the Wiggens brand the new WH-220 HT comes with infrared heating technology and a glass ceramic top plate which is unique in the world of magnetic stirrers and hot plates.

The infrared heating technology allows the Wiggens WH-220 HT to go up to a maximum temperature of 500°C in order to meet the increasing demand towards high temperature heating. The advantages of infrared heating, however, are manifold and not limited to the high maximum temperature. The heat is provided almost instantaneously and can be cut off just as quick. The instant heat provision and the nearly loss-free heat transfer enables the Wiggens WH-220 HT to heat up solutions much quicker than traditional stirrers with heating function and to provide a much more stable temperature once the desired mark is reached.

The glass ceramic top plate is perfectly fitted and sealed on top of the stirrer so that spilled liquids are prevented from entering the interior of the device. The glass ceramic material can resist over 700°C thermal shocks and shows a very good chemical resistance, which significantly enhances the durability of the Wiggens WH-220 HT.

With a heating power of 500W, the Wiggens WH-220 HT is a highly effective and economical stirrer / hot plate, which comes in a compact design and can be operated intuitively and conveniently via touch key pad.

Overhead Stirrer Provides an Effective Tool for Rapid Screening

An independent report (www.asynt.com/download_files/84.pdf) demonstrates how the Asynt Vortex overhead stirrer system provides an effective tool for rapid screening of a range of reaction conditions in parallel - an essential for efficient process development.

The Asynt Vortex overhead stirrer system is designed to enable three reactions to be stirred simultaneously using a single overhead stirrer motor and heated to temperatures to over 200°C.

In the report - researchers evaluate the consistency of mixing delivered by a Vortex system controlling three reaction vessels by measuring the bulk mixing and extraction times in each vessel and comparing this data with a stand-alone vessel.

From the experiments conducted - the researchers concluded that no significant difference was measured in the mixing capability of a reaction vessel connected to a Vortex system when compared to a stand-alone single reaction vessel set-up. In addition the mixing characteristics across the three reaction vessels set up on the Vortex system were, within experimental error, the same. Therefore the researchers concluded that the Vortex system constitutes a useful addition for laboratories conducting parallel synthesis minimising both the necessary laboratory footprint required and reducing the cost significantly by replacing three overhead stirrers with one. Further the integration of the Vortex with an Asynt DrySyn Multi hotplate allows heating of the three reaction vessels using a single hotplate also reducing the space requirements and costs when compared to a standard set-up without the mess and safety concerns of using a conventional oil bath system.

29138pr@reply-direct.com New Rotor Increases Centrifugation Throughput and Flexibility

Designed for applications that use common, disposable conical tubes, JA-14.50 rotors from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences extend the applications and flexibility of the company’s Avanti centrifuge series, and can be used in Avanti J-26S, J-30I and J-E centrifuges. While greater capacity results in higher throughput, the rotors maintain the precision performance offered by products in the Avanti line and are the only high-performance rotors capable of spinning 50, 15, 5 and 1.5 mL conical tubes, and 50, 15 and 10 mL round bottom tubes and bottles at their maximum speeds.

Delivering a top speed of 14,000 rpm and rcf of 35,000 x g, JA-14.50 rotors hold up to 16 x 50 mL conical tubes and maximise the number of 50 mL conical tubes that can be processed in a single run. The fixed-angle rotor is intended for general pelleting of cells, bacteria and food products; separating proteins, viruses and subcellular fractions; running concentrators and columns; and for phase separation and binding studies.

Avanti centrifuges are available with a selection of BioCertified fixed-angle and swinging-bucket rotors, ranging in capacity from 360 mL to 6 L and all independently certified to contain liquids and aerosols. A BioCertified* dual-locking lid configuration, for workflows that include biohazardous samples, maintains biocontainment when removing the rotor from the centrifuge and transporting it to a containment hood. Rotors are also available in a standard single-locking lid configuration.

Avanti rotors, including the new JA-14.50 rotor, have a unique ID that is tracked using magnetic sensors; the centrifugation system uses Dynamic Rotor Inertia Check and the ID for Automatic Rotor Identification and to ensure that no individual rotor exceeds the maximum speed permitted.

“We’re proud to introduce the JA-14.50 rotor – it improves workflows, saving scientists’ time, and is useful across a diverse array of applications where a variety of conical tube sizes are commonly used,” said Randall Lockner, Marketing Manager at Beckman Coulter Life Sciences. “Users can rely upon the quality, performance and efficiency for which Beckman Coulter centrifugation products are known.”

In addition to compatibility with current models, JA-14.50 rotors can be used in installed Avanti J-20 and J-25 centrifuges.
