8 Next Generation HPTLC Software

Camag have announced the worldwide availability of a new version of its visionCATS HPTLC software (V1.4). With visionCATS Camag have developed a state-of-the-art software for qualitative HPTLC analysis that supports chromatographers who use HPTLC for quality control, identification, and detection of adulteration, as well as stability studies in various fields of application.

Besides giving visionCATS a new Look and Feel, Camag have implemented several useful tools, i.e. a clipboard function or annotations integration into reports, that make every HPTLC analysts life easier.

The latest release integrates the Camag Method Library, where users can download validated methods showing examples incl. reference standards and execute analyses accordingly, which makes HPTLC the ideal tool

for quality control, particularly for identification. While saving costs and achieving reproducible results through the use of standardised procedures the Camag Method Library makesAnchor own method development redundant.

Major enhancements include a new file explorer with extensive filtering functionalities and an all new preview mode that makes entire analyses, methods and comparisons visible at a glance. The Comparison Viewer, a key part of visionCATS now comes up with an integrated clean plate correction and a built-in zoom functionality that considerably enhances usability.

The visionCATS software can either be run on a single workstation or in a multi-user lab network. For the moment the software is geared to qualitative work including all aspects of qualitative HPTLC be it for cGMP compliant routine work or flexible scientific research.

Launch of Ready-to-Use Ninhydrin Formulation for Ion Exchange Chromatography Systems

Biochrom Ltd, a manufacturer of quality scientific instruments for applications in the life science, clinical, and analytical markets, announced today the commercial launch of its EZ Nin ReagentTM, a ready-to-use ninhydrin formulation for use in ion exchange chromatography systems with post-column derivatisation for improved amino acid analysis.

The newly launched and patent protected EZ Nin Reagent has been developed to save laboratory time and waste; it requires no mixing or nitrogen and does not degrade with time or exposure to oxygen, providing reliable analysis over time without loss of sensitivity. Challenges encountered with standard ninhydrin include the long preparation process, instability of the reagent, degradation and waste, and batch-to-batch variability. Each batch of EZ Nin Reagent is identically prepared, enabling the reagent to be topped up on the instrument, eliminating waste or the risk of running out during a series of analyses. EZ Nin Reagent is methanol and hydrindantin free.

Trace Level Quantitation of Multiple Compounds

Shimadzu’s LCMS-8050 triple quadrupole LC-MS/MS meets the growing demand for trace-level quantitation in clinical research and other markets. It incorporates proprietary ultrafast technologies as well as a newly developed ion source and collision cell technology. As the flagship model of Shimadzu’s UFMS (Ultra-Fast Mass Spectrometry) product line, the LCMS-8050 features high sensitivity, high data quality and the world’s fastest data acquisition rates.

Delivering attogram-level (10-18 grams) sensitivity and possessing unsurpassed ruggedness, the LCMS-8050 achieves its improved sensitivity through two important technologies: newly designed Heated ESI source improves desolvation and enhances ionisation efficiency with the addition of a heated gas used in combination with the nebuliser gas; UFsweeper® cell pressure.

Tristana von Will, Product Marketing Manager at Biochrom, commented: “Biochrom’s formulation combines ease of use with unprecedented chemical stability, providing laboratories with the confidence they require when evaluating concentrations of amino acids for diagnosis and monitoring of inborn errors of metabolism (IEMs).”

The newly engineered high voltage power supply enables a maximum scan rate of 30,000 u/sec and a 5 msec polarity switching time, making the LCMSAnchor-8050 combined with Nexera UHPLC the ideal platform for laboratory productivity. It is now possible to include 1,000 events with up to 32 channels per event for a maximum of 32,000 MRMs per analysis.

The instrument features user-friendly operation and is easy to maintain. The plug-in for the new ion source enables easy changing from ESI to APCI or to dual ionisation mode (DUIS). LabSolutions LCMS Version 5.60 software provides seamless integration of HPLC and MS control. An automated MRM optimisation routine allows unattended optimisation of multiple compounds.

28951pr@reply-direct.com New Gas Chromatography Options Designed to Conserve Helium

Scientists using gas chromatography (GC) can enjoy a number of new options with the Thermo Scientific TRACE 1300 Series GC system, designed to conserve helium, permit use of multiple detectors simultaneously, automate sampling gas workflows, and perform flame photometric detection.

New options for the TRACE 1300 Series GC platform include:

Instant Connect Helium Saver module, designed to reduce helium consumption an average of 80 percent, for significant cost savings during the analytical run and when idle, compared to a non-equipped instrument. Instant Connect design lets the user easily install and replace modules without tools.

High-capacity TRACE 1310 auxiliary oven, with multi-valve, multi-column capacity, enabling use of up to four conventional detectors simultaneously. This is expected to be particularly useful for chemical and petrochemical applications.

Dedicated Instant Connect flame photometric detector for traces of sulphur, phosphorous or tin-containing species. Food and environmental testing are targeted major applications.

Instant Connect gas sampling valve module, designed for automating sample gas analysis workflows, and introducing precise amounts of gas samples directly into the capillary or packed columns.

The TRACE 1300 Series GC and the recently released Thermo Scientific ISQ Series single quadrupole GC-MS systems can now be controlled by the Thermo Scientific Dionex Chromeleon chromatography data system, designed to streamline the path from samples to results by simplifying workflows.

“These new capabilities reflect our ongoing efforts to empower GC customers to maximise laboratory productivity without compromising performance,” said Massimo Santoro, Thermo Fisher Scientific GC Marketing Manager.

Existing TRACE 1300 Series GC instruments are compatible with these new Instant Connect modules, which can simply be plugged into the mainframe.

Launch of New Speedcore Core-Shell Particles

Launching its new Speedcore columns into the market, Fortis Technologies is expanding its current range of liquid chromatography products to include a new core-shell particle.

2.6µm Speedcore is the latest addition to the HPLC/UHPLC column range provided by Fortis Technologies. Based upon a 1.8µm solid

core with a 0.4µm outer shell, Speedcore is the very latest in core-shell technology designed to increase speed and sensitivity of analysis for the HPLC analyst.

Speedcore C18 is a high efficiency particle, producing over 2 fold increase in efficiency over traditional 3µm particles achieved routinely in standard HPLC systems. This in turn leads to increased resolution and separation of analytes.

“Fortis Technologies is proud to include this series of columns to its ever increasing line-up, Speedcore is complementary to our existing range of HPLC and UHPLC particles columns already available,” stated Mark Woodruff, Sales and Marketing Director. “By introducing a core-shell particle we are offering the analyst a complete range of UHPLC and HPLC columns, providing them with options in their laboratory to improve throughput and productivity”

To request more information or for your copy of the new Fortis Speedcore brochure you can contact technical support at Fortis Technologies, or visit their website.
