46 New Water Level Instrument Offering
In-Situ, Inc announced the new Level TROLL 200 instrument with direct-read cable for monitoring and logging water level/pressure and temperature. The new absolute (non-vented) Level TROLL 200 instrument further expands In-Situ’s water level instrument offering.
The Level TROLL 200 features corrosion resistance, flexible communications, low power consumption, and durable direct-read cable. For monitoring water levels and collecting hydrologic event data, the instrument offers linear, fast linear, and event logging modes. Chemical- and corrosion-resistant ABS construction makes the instrument suitable for saltwater and other harsh environments. Flexible Modbus, RS485, or SDI-12 output enable connection to TROLL® the RuggedReader®
handheld PC, laptop, SCADA systems, or third-party data collection platforms.
Conservation districts, education and volunteer groups, government agencies, construction companies, and drillers will find the Level TROLL 200 instrument suited to groundwater and surface water applications that require SDI-12 or RS485 communication outputs. To extend instrument deployments, the Level TROLL 200 features low power consumption and the only industry guarantee for battery life. The instrument will operate for a minimum of five years or customers receive a free instrument replacement. Instruments can also be run on external solar power, external battery packs, or other power from data collection platforms.

Com 200 is used to download data from instruments deployed on direct-read cable. A docking station is used to download data from instruments deployed on suspension wire. Win-Situ 5 operates platform. To compensate for changes in water level due to barometric pressure fluctuations, the BaroTROLL®

Progress on Mixed Plastics Waste Recycling
CeDo has reported significant progress in its research and development of recycling of mixed plastics film waste. David Brookes, Process Manager spoke at the Recoup -organised domestic mixed plastics recycling meeting in Oxford in May and outlined some of the technical advances to date.
CeDo’s film extrusion plant in Telford UK and its CeDo’s recycling plant in Geleen Holland are combining forces to tackle the chemical, mechanical and process issues in trying to recycle this most problematic area of the plastics waste stream.
Brookes reported to the Recoup meeting that CeDo's technology has assisted in surmounting the chief difficulties in the processability and recyclability of the waste. Brookes reports that CeDo is set to continue with and expand its closed loop plastics recycling initiatives in areas such as agricultural, industrial and commercial plastics film waste. CeDo’s plant in Geleen Holland is currently recycling some 40,000 annual tonnes of Europe’s post-use agricultural film waste back into into its EcoMin 2nd life plastic binliners.
“This kind of post-use industrial plastics recycling demands a great deal of quality control; auditing, training and education of the supply side as well as a lot of experience in the process technology that delivers the 2nd life plastic back to the marketplace,” said Brookes. “But recycling a variety of mixed plastics film waste from the public waste stream poses much greater technical challenges all round, together with questions of cost. Local authorities and the waste management industries will need to work closely together in order to keep the momentum going in this area of recycling.”
Part of CeDo’s ongoing research in this area has been taken up with in a project announced in Autumn 2008 by WRAP, (Waste & Resources Action Programme). Partners in the mixed plastics project consortium include Sainsbury’s, Valpak, Bowman Process Technology, Closed Loop Recycling, Linpac and CeDo Ltd.

New TOC Analyser Improves Lab Efficiency
Hach Lange is helping a number of customers to save considerable time and costs with its new IL550 TOC-TN analyser.
TOC analysis is vitally important in applications ranging from power generation, wastewater, drinking water, surface water and ultrapure water, to agricultural soils, contaminated land and food.
The DragonMed SK-O330-Pro shaker has a powerful yet quiet shaking mechanism. It provides a smooth orbital shaking with speed range of 0 to 5000rpm. In addition, an optional linear shaking mode SK-L330-Pro is available, ideal for most culturing / aeration applications, with a maximum capacity of 7.5kg.
SK-330-Pro has two operating modes: time and continuous operating. Digital display makes it possible to read the speed, timer function and operation mode.
The biggest advantage of SK-O330-Pro is that it can accommodate vessels of different sizes, a common requirement when different people in the laboratory use shakers. PC control via RS232 interface software is available to control and document all measuring values via PC. Parameters can be set to carry out safety monitoring.

The IL550 can also be used for the determination of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) as well as total organic carbon (TOC) in sewage, river, landfill leachates, effluents and groundwater samples. As a result of this versatility, it has proved to be an important addition for Hach Lange customers including the Environment Agency’s National Laboratory Services (NLS), South West Water and laboratory testing services company Chemtest.
