The All-Purpose Mill for Rapid Comminution
The Fritsch Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14 grinds rapid and effectively soft to medium-hard, brittle as well as fibrous samples.
Analox Sensor Technology has announced it is now supplying the GDS 404 gas alarm, which is capable of detecting gas hazards in a wide range of environments.
The GDS 404 replaces the Analox 1300, and will connect with the existing range of Analox industrial sensors.
The fixed gas alarm can detect up to four gases, and is typically used in locations such as public buildings, boiler plant rooms, swimming pools, water treatment works and manufacturing and processing plants.
Mark Lewis, managing director of Analox, said: “By supplying the GDS 404 alongside our well-established range of industrial analysers, Analox can expand its industrial portfolio. Our clients can be confident they are getting the highest quality products, ensuring the safety of anyone on their site.”

For any laboratory tasked with secure and traceable storage of samples the new Product Leaflet Library from Micronic Europe BV is a valuable source of information.
Designed as an easily updated source of reference information the new library contains technical and applications leaflets covering the complete Micronic product portfolio.
Product leaflets are included that provide useful hints and tips on Micronic sample storage tubes, storage racks, tube capping solutions, affordable starter packs, high precision liquid handling and productive automated systems. Each leaflet includes a product photograph, key features and benefits, technical specifications, part numbers, and available options.
Application leaflets provide readers with useful hints and tips on sample storage issues including 'Why 2D coding?', 'How to save valuable freezer storage space', 'High integrity sample storage solutions for biobanking' and how to 'Improve your automated sample logistics'.

Even the comminution of samples, which are difficult to grind or temperature-sensitive samples and plastics, are no problem for the PULVERISETTE 14 due to its very efficient air cooling. In addition to the special air cooling of the PULVERISETTE 14, Fritsch have developed the Fritsch-impact blades. Due to its clever design it allows together with a sieve ring a very gentle grinding of the sample, which in many cases without impact blades would not be possible. The result: increased grinding action for a particularly fast and effective grinding, the heat load is minimised. And the ideal solution for especially temperature-sensitive materials such as powder coatings or plastics, as well as for smoothly pre- and fine grinding of hard-brittle to soft, fatty sample or samples with a residual moisture.
Even when heavy-metal-(iron-)free grinding or sample preparation according to standard for RoHS-analysis is necessary, the perfect accessories are available.
The Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14 with a real top speed of 20.000rpm is the Turbo Mill for sample preparation. With a feed particle size of < 10mm, a final fineness of up to 40µm can be achieved. The throughput depends on the material and lies between 0.05 and 5 litres per hour. Rotors, sieve rings and collecting vessels made of different materials and in different sizes enable an optimal adjustment of the instrument to the application.
Advantages with the Fritsch Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14: rapid sample throughput as a result of high-speed grinding and simple cleaning; simple and easy change of all grinding parts without tools; simple, contamination-free cleaning and assembly of all grinding parts outside the instrument; variable speed adjustment from 6,000 to 20,000rpm; automatic speed following system for constant grinding; efficient air cooling of the rotor, all motor components and the grinding material due to a sophisticated routing of the air flow; grinding parts made of stainless steel, pure titanium, TiN-coated and WC-coated; and rapid- action clamping lock.

Hand-Held FT-IR Application Capabilities
A2 Technologies has announced that the Exoscan hand-held FTIR is now available with diffuse reflectance sampling interface. This capability greatly extends the range of applications for the Exoscan system.
With the diffuse reflectance sampling capability, Exoscan can tackle an increased number of important applications. For example, in geoscience, the Exoscan system is analysing the components of soil, sand and rock to determine specific composition and origin. In art conservation, the non-contact capability of the diffuse reflectance interface is critical to ensure that highly valuable art is not damaged by the analysis. In the study of composites, the diffuse reflectance interface has proven highly effective in looking at highly IR absorbing carbon fiber-rich sections of cured resin-fibre matrices.

Dr John Seelenbinder, Director of Application Development for A2 Technologies, commented: "We are only beginning to tap the vast array of applications that are made accessible by coupling diffuse reflectance capability with a hand-held FTIR. The non-destructive, no sample preparation nature of this method is ideally matched to the uses for a hand-held FTIR. In fact, what ATR is to lab FTIR systems - a universal sampling method, diffuse reflectance may well be to hand-held analysers."
Exoscan, which is rapidly gaining acceptance as the only portable FTIR that offers performance equivalent to a laboratory FTIR, can be equipped with internal reflectance, external reflectance, grazing angle and now, diffuse reflectance sampling capability. In addition to general solids and liquids identification, the system can provide excellent data on samples that are highly reflective, have thin coatings or contamination on the surface, or have surfaces that are less reflective, rough or IR light absorbing.
