27 New Electronic Pipettors
Available from Integra Biosciences AG the new VIAFLO Voyager range of handheld 8- and 12-channel electronic pipettors have been designed to increase the productivity of liquid sample transfers at a time for a fraction of the cost of an automated sample handling system.
Based upon a proprietary motorised adjustable spacing design - Voyager pipettors eliminate cross contamination and ensure consistent, accurate delivery of liquids to target vessels. Voyager electronic pipettors are the perfect liquid handling tool for applications including sample reformatting, PCR Reaction set-up, ELISA sample transfers and Taqman Assay set-up.
Voyager 8-channel pipettors serve as an efficient tool for transferring fluids out of tubes in racks that are spaced more than 9.0mm apart into 96 well format plates. Up until now this task has been limited to single channel pipetting. Now (8) transfers can be done simultaneously and Voyager makes it easy requiring only one hand to do all the work. Four 8-channel Voyager models are available in volumes ranging from 0.5uL up to 1250uL.
Voyager 12-channel pipettors serve as an efficient tool for simultaneously transferring 12 fluids out of tubes or plates that are in racks spaced more than 4.50mm apart into 96 well format plates. Two 12-channel models are available a 0.5uL-12.5uL and a 5.0uL-125uL.
Voyager pipettors may accommodate 2 or 3 user defined centre-to-centre tip spacings that can be activated anytime during a pipetting application. Simply press a button to move the tips to the needed tip spacing. VIAFLO Voyager pipettors work exclusively with VIAFLO GripTips, which provide a perfect seal every time and won't fall off during use.
Circle no. 385 Hosted Informatics Software Launched
Symyx Technologies, Inc has announced the launch of hosted informatics software to researchers working in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical industries and academia. The new hosted offerings, to be accessed via a software-as-a-service business model, will combine Symyx software with data archiving capabilities in a secure, state-of- the-art data hosting and communications facility. The hosted informatics environment will enable more R&D organisations to benefit from scientific software by reducing the requirements for information technology (IT) infrastructure and resources, lowering total cost of ownership and accelerating ELN deployment.
Initially, Symyx Notebook is being made available as a hosted electronic lab notebook (ELN) service enabling medicinal chemists, synthetic chemists and biologists to manage, explore, share and reuse experimental information and intellectual property (IP). Using a hosted ELN service, R&D organisations can deploy and leverage the electronic notebook quickly and efficiently without added IT infrastructure and resources while collaborating more effectively with partners in today’s information-driven R&D environment.
In developing the hosted ELN service, Symyx is leveraging the company’s extensive operational experience with the DiscoveryGate® content platform. DiscoveryGate has been
delivering hosted scientific information from millions of publications to hundreds of companies worldwide for over seven years. This unique software hosting experience positions Symyx to manage compound registration, inventory, work request and ELN systems successfully in a secure hosted environment.
The hosted informatics infrastructure provided by Symyx will be supported by Switch Communications Group L.L.C, an industry-leading information storage and protection specialist. Switch provides highly secure, mission-critical interconnectivity and disaster-avoidance colocation services within S+S redundant, 100% guaranteed reliable, Tier 4+-designed facilities. The secure Switch facility where Symyx will host the ELN service is compliant with SAS 70, Type II auditing standards and specifications supporting industry-standard disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Third-party offsite data backup, archiving and recovery services will also be provided.
The standard hosted ELN service includes all installation, configuration, software and hardware maintenance and data back-ups for a fixed yearly fee. Circle no. 386 ADVERTORIAL
New Incubator CO2 Analyser Meets Researched user Demands - Gives Accurate and Independent CO2 Verification and is Easy to Use and Read
From independent research among users, Geotech has designed its new G100 incubator CO2 analyser. The G100 is an easy-to-use, handheld CO2 analyser with increased accuracy in the 0-20 percent range and a bright, easily read display. Readings are stable thanks to inbuilt moisture removal. Timesaving twin-probes check incubator top and bottom temperatures and difference simultaneously. Increased memory
holds 1000 readings. Options include O2 and/or RH analysis, temperature probes, data logging, and USB-link software to download data, analyse and export it – and to enable Internet file exchange with Geotech technical and customer support. The fully functional G100 is available from:
www.geotech.co.uk
Research has ensured the G100 analyser is fully operable and configurable from its keypad and screen. Routine, back-to-factory service and re-calibration is recommended once a year. When due, the analyser displays a time-for-service warning but continues to work normally.

operational life (2) with one of its two temperature probes for top and bottom temperatures simultaneously (3).
An optional ‘USB-link cable and G100 software package’ supports PC and Internet connectivity. This enables data download to a PC of the event log, user calibration and the data set for analysis, graphing, secure archiving and, if necessary, exporting to spreadsheet, word processors or e-mails. To assist users anywhere in the world, the USB-PC link and G100 software allow user settings also to be downloaded as a PC file and e-mailed to Geotech for technical support and troubleshooting. This assists remote diagnostics and service support worldwide avoiding unnecessary return to factory. It also helps ensure continued use and minimal downtime and limits time-zone lag. If necessary, the analyser firmware can be ‘flashed’ with a new Geotech software release, via website downloaded, for continuous improvement.
