Before listening: Think about adverts and discuss the following questions in groups of four. 1 Which adverts do you enjoy the most? 2 Explain why you like these adverts.

Listen to an advert


You might hear someone speaking but do you always listen to what they are saying? Have you noticed that it is more difficult to listen than to speak? A good listener practises active listening.


There are five stages in the listening process: 1) attend, 2) perceive, 3) interpret , 4) assess, 5) respond.


Match each one to its correct meaning: a) Become aware of; b) Make sense of; c) Pay attention; d) Reply or react verbally; e) Decide on the importance.

can make you think in different ways. Your reactions can make you want to buy the product. 1 Radio is the only advertising medium that doesn’t use pictures. Listen to your teacher read a radio advert. While listening: Think about who the advert is aimed at and how it tries to make them think in a different way.
