Getting the Technology Right for Reopening

Of all the industries that have felt the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, music venues have suffered more than most. Music venues are synonymous with busy bars and crowded drinking areas. While no one wants customers to go thirsty, venues must find a convenient way to safely manage these crowded areas without sacrificing the convenience — and revenue — of concession stands.

One thing that has been clear over the course of the pandemic is that technology holds the key for organisations operating under severe restrictions. Leveraging electronic point of sale (EPOS) systems will be a crucial first step for music venues when the time comes.

EPOS systems can create seamless contactless transactions with:

1. Mobile Ordering — customers simply open the website on their web browser, choose their order from the menu and pay online.

2. Order Processing — bar staff receive the order, assign an order number and begin preparing drinks.

3. Contactless Collection — once the order is ready, the customer is notified via the app and is given a designated collection point where they can find their concessions.

EPOS will play a critical role in helping music venues solve the problem of crowded bars in a streamlined and efficient manner. In addition, while this makes venues safer, there are also significant associated business benefits.

It gives venues the flexibility of being able to open more terminals, bars or spaces or even have roaming tills and sellers with an iPad. It is also fully scalable, which means that a venue may have one or two terminals now, but as a business grows, they can seamlessly add more to suit.

This seemingly simple act of digital transformation and automation opens up a plethora of opportunities for music venues, which had previously been relying on cash based till systems. On top of considerably faster transaction speeds, allowing venues to fire through more orders than ever before, EPOS facilitates data collection. It monitors transactions, what items are selling, what items aren’t, and will keep track of stock levels in real-time.

For those venues that line their EPOS up with their ticketing systems, the customer’s entire night can be organised and paid for through one single app; tickets, tables, cloakroom, drinks — all on one system. Suddenly, the venue becomes more enticing and some may even find that this increased convenience leads to more sales all the way through the chain.
