While many of us have a woman called Alexa living in our houses, add some good old jingle to your Kringle with a visit to the vinyl record shop and their huge selection of LPs from across every genre, from country to jazz, rock to soul. Who needs to go out when you can stay in, particularly with a selection of real ales from Elsecar’s popular beer shop which sells hundreds of craft beer bottles to make it a very merry Christmas. Winter is coming and I think we could all do with being magicked into a fantasy realm after a year that’s felt Stark and Sirius. If you or someone you know is a Game of Thrones or Harry Potter fan, then visit the frightlingly good gothic shop which is also home to a collection of creepy characters which adorn jewellery and gifts. Also at Elsecar is a magic doll house shop unlike any other. They hand-craft miniature houses of horror and movie-style mansions along with furniture and dolls for the scariest surprise.

This Christmas may not be the family affair we’re all used to, but show your loved ones they’re still held close to your heart by booking a surprise post-Christmas family photography session with Elsecar’s resident photographer studio. Known for their 18th century heritage, it wouldn’t be Elsecar without a relic or two. Along with the extensive antiques centre which is an Aladdin’s cave of the weird and wonderful, the site is also home to an auction house and an antique clock repair shop. If you’re interested in the history of the site, why not join in one of their guided tours every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2pm. Contact the visitor centre to book your place.
After all that shopping, take a break in one of the two tearooms, both with outdoor seating where you can enjoy hot roast sandwiches, homemade festive bakes and great coffee. Before you leave, be sure to visit Elsecar’s natural foods shop to stock up on winter wellness wares such as herbal drinks, local honey, plus vitamins and supplements. They also sell gluten and sugar-free foods plus vegan products and cruelty-free health and beauty lines.
