to the Winter edition of Aroundtown Magazine.

Welcome

Dear Reader Well, what a year 2020 turned out to be. Things have felt beyond our control for many of us, with normal life disrupted in one way or another. But as a region, we in South Yorkshire are resilient and we have adapted to whatever this year has thrown at us. We decided to delay the final edition of 2020 for after lockdown 2.0, to allow our local businesses to reopen and for us to publish a magazine at a time that would benefit them. We remain hopeful that the other businesses in sectors such as hospitality and events will also be able to reopen soon. Our independent retailers need our support more than ever, and we have some fantastic local businesses in South Yorkshire selling everything from gifts to homewares and food staples. But the benefits of shopping small extend beyond the times of crisis or Christmas. It’s good for everyone, all of the time.

As well as finding festive inspiration, this edition is also packed with interesting topics and ideas to keep you busy over the winter months – be it places to walk, improvements to your home, or ways to look after your health and well-being. Our great community is built on the foundations of great people and as ever we are proud to share the real-life stories of local folk. In this edition, we have a forager, a couple of musical maestros, and even a message from South Yorkshire’s Santa. We also feature Rotherham’s oldest charity and a new exhibition uncovering the story of the humble horses which shaped our region. This winter, take time to slow down, give love and spread joy where you can. The days ahead may not feel as merry and bright as usual, but I think 2020 has made us appreciate just what (and who) we have around us.
